One hundred consecutively selected patients with chondromalacia patella were examined arthroscopically. The severity of the disease process was graded on the basis of the arthroscopic examination. A well-controlled nonoperative treatment program was instituted, and the end results were then tabulated when a minimum two-year follow-up had been achieved.A review of the literature revealed that others have graded chondromalacia.1"4 There have been previous reports of well-controlled nonoperative programs for chondromalacia patella utilizing a classification system based upon axial x-ray.5*6 A therapeutic approach to chondromalacia patella has been report ed, but no results of the efficacy of the system are available.7The need for a study combining an adequate sample, pretreatment grading of the severity of the disease, a uniform treatment program, and statistically significant results of the program became apparent.

Objective: This study aimed to explore and evaluate a novel method for diagnosing patellar chondromalacia using radiomic features from patellar sagittal T2-weighted images (T2WI).
Methods: The experimental data included sagittal T2WI images of the patella from 40 patients with patellar chondromalacia and 40 healthy volunteers. The training set comprised 30 cases of chondromalacia and 30 healthy volunteers, while the test set included 10 cases of each.

Introduction: Chondromalacia patella (CMP) is characterized by cartilage degeneration, affects young adults, more women (2:1) and is responsible for 75% of knee pain complaints in the active population. The etiology is multifactorial and may be related to extrinsic factors (trauma and burden) and intrinsic factors (patellar malalignment and quadriceps weakness). Isokinetic dynamometry (ID) can aid in the detection of the causal factors of knee pain related to CMP.

This pictorial review examines the radiologic characteristics of various non-traumatic patellar disorders, focusing on imaging modalities such as radiography, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
