Background: The utility of the upper limit of vulnerability (ULV) test in patients undergoing defibrillator implantation has been reported, so the purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference in the clinical outcomes between patients with ULV ≤15 J or >15 J.
Methods And Results: A total of 165 patients receiving an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator underwent a vulnerability test. At the time of the implantation, we delivered a 15-J shock on the T-peak and ±20 ms later to cover the most vulnerable part of the cardiac cycle. The clinical outcomes were prospectively analyzed. A 15-J shock induced ventricular fibrillation (VF) in 30 patients (ULV >15 J) and did not in 135 (ULV ≤15 J). The characteristics of the 2 groups were comparable. After a mean follow-up of 757 days, Kaplan-Meier curve analysis showed that the ULV ≤15 J group experienced less VF than the ULV >15 J group (log-rank P=0.003). The occurrence of ventricular tachycardia was similar between the 2 groups (P=0.140). Furthermore, the effectiveness of ATP was comparable. After adjusting for other known predictors of shock therapy, a ULV >15 J was independently associated with the occurrence of VF (hazard ratio: 6.25; 95% confidence interval: 1.913-20.40; P<0.01).
Conclusions: A high ULV value was associated with a high incidence of VF, which suggests that cardiac vulnerability to electrical shock may be linked to electrical instability.

Case: A 35-year-old man with morbid obesity sustained an ultra-low velocity (ULV) rotational knee dislocation secondary to a fall from standing. The patient was successfully treated using a subcutaneous knee-spanning internal fixator, the "INFIX" technique, which has previously been described for pelvic ring injuries.
Conclusion: This novel technique maintained the stable reduction of an ULV knee dislocation in a patient with morbid obesity until adequate healing was achieved.

Formation of unilamellae of fully hydrated dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) was induced by a horn sonicator from multilamellar vesicles and followed by time-resolved synchrotron small angle X-ray scattering and direct visual morphological investigations by the means of transmission electron-microscopy combined with freeze-fracture. Without incubation the ultrasonication causes continuous increasing in temperature and transformation from the gel to rippled gel structures, then reaching the main transition, the formfactor of unilamellar structure appeared. The ultrasonication resulted in different layer formations at the characteristic temperatures of the gel (20 °C), rippled gel (38 °C), and liquid crystalline (45 °C) phases of the system.

We demonstrate an approach to creating nanoscale potentials in van der Waals layers integrated with a buried programmable ferroelectric layer. Using ultra-low-voltage electron beam lithography (ULV-EBL), we can program the ferroelectric polarization in AlBN (AlBN) thin films, generating structures with sizes as small as 35 nm. We demonstrate the ferroelectric field effect with a graphene/vdW stack on AlBN by creating a p-n junction.

Purpose: To develop a short form of Chinese ULV-VFQ-50 based on the ULV-VFQ-150 and compare the psychometrical properties of the two questionnaires.
Methods: We selected candidate items from the ULV-VFQ-150, considering the item response among ultra-low vision (ULV) participants, the even distribution of item measures, visual aspects, and visual domains, to construct a 50-item ULV-VFQ-50 questionnaire. Then, ULV participants were recruited to evaluate its psychometric characteristics by using Rasch analysis.

Molecular and genomic technological advancements have greatly enhanced our understanding of biological processes by allowing us to quantify key biological variables such as gene expression, protein levels, and microbiome compositions. These breakthroughs have enabled us to achieve increasingly higher levels of resolution in our measurements, exemplified by our ability to comprehensively profile biological information at the single-cell level. However, the analysis of such data faces several critical challenges: limited number of individuals, non-normality, potential dropouts, outliers, and repeated measurements from the same individual.
