Hypothesis: Bubbles oscillating near a free surface are common across numerous systems. Thin liquid films (TLFs) formed between an oscillating bubble and a free surface can exhibit distinct morphological features influenced by interfacial properties, evaporation, and deformation history. We hypothesize that a continuous film presence throughout oscillation results in a wimple morphology, whereas intermittent film presence leads to a dimple formation.

Key Laboratory of Macromolecular Synthesis and Functionalization (Ministry of Education), Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310027, China; Center of Healthcare Materials, Shaoxing Institute, Zhejiang University, Shaoxing 312000, China. Electronic address:

Polymethacrylate and its derivatives are widely used in food industry and biomedical applications for their plasticity, biocompatibility and optical transparency. However, susceptibility to bacterial growth on their surfaces limits their applications. In this study, linear and branched polyethyleneimine (PEI) molecules were grafted onto poly(ethyl methacrylate) (PEMA) via aminolysis using a simple one-step method to enhance the antibacterial properties of PEMA films.

Design and Characterization of Polyvinyl Alcohol/Kappa-Carrageenan Pickering Emulsion Biocomposite Films for Potential Wound Care Applications.

J Biomed Mater Res A

January 2025

Institute for Fiber Engineering and Science (IFES), Interdisciplinary Cluster for Cutting Edge Research (ICCER), Shinshu University, Ueda, Japan.

This study aimed to develop polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and kappa-carrageenan (κCA) biocomposite films using a Pickering emulsion technique for wound care applications. Juniper essential oil and modified sepiolite were incorporated to enhance functionality, with films prepared via solvent casting and characterized for structural, thermal, and mechanical properties. The PCOS-2 film exhibited the highest mechanical performance, with Young's modulus of 6.

Multijunction photovoltaics (PVs) are gaining prominence owing to their superior capability of achieving power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) beyond the radiative limit of single-junction cells, where improving narrow bandgap tin-lead perovskites is critical for thin-film devices. With a focus on understanding the chemistry of tin-lead perovskite precursor solutions, we herein find that Sn(II) species dominate interactions with precursors and additives and uncover the exclusive role of carboxylic acid in regulating solution colloidal properties and film crystallisation, and ammonium in improving film optoelectronic properties. Materials that combine these two function groups, amino acid salts, considerably improve the semiconducting quality and homogeneity of perovskite films, surpassing the effect of the individual functional groups when introduced as part of separate molecules.

As an ideal eco-friendly Pb-free optoelectronic material, Sn-based perovskites have made significant progress in the field of photovoltaics, and the highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) of Sn-based perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has been currently approaching 16%. In the course of development, various strategies have been proposed to improve the PCE and stability of Sn-based PSCs by solving the inherent problems of Sn, including high Lewis acidity and easy oxidation. Notably, the recent breakthrough comes from the development of heteroatomic coordination molecules to control the characteristics of Sn-based perovskites, which are considered to be vital for realizing efficient PSCs.
