Rational Design of Nanozymes for Engineered Cascade Catalytic Cancer Therapy.

Chem Rev

January 2025

Center for Theoretical Interdisciplinary Sciences Wenzhou Institute, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wenzhou, Zhejiang 325001, P. R. China.

Nanozymes have shown significant potential in cancer catalytic therapy by strategically catalyzing tumor-associated substances and metabolites into toxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) , thereby inducing oxidative stress and promoting cancer cell death. However, within the complex tumor microenvironment (TME), the rational design of nanozymes and factors like activity, reaction substrates, and the TME itself significantly influence the efficiency of ROS generation. To address these limitations, recent research has focused on exploring the factors that affect activity and developing nanozyme-based cascade catalytic systems, which can trigger two or more cascade catalytic processes within tumors, thereby producing more therapeutic substances and achieving efficient and stable cancer therapy with minimal side effects.

Background: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a noninvasive cancer treatment that works by using light to stimulate the production of excessive cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS), which effectively eliminates tumor cells. However, the therapeutic effects of PDT are often limited by tumor hypoxia, which prevents effective tumor cell elimination. The oxygen (O) consumption during PDT can further exacerbate hypoxia, leading to post-treatment adverse events.

Thermodynamic regulation of carbon dioxide capture by functionalized ionic liquids.

Chem Soc Rev

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, Center of Chemistry for Frontier Technologies, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310027, China.

Carbon dioxide capture has attracted worldwide attention because CO emissions cause global warming and exacerbate climate change. Ionic liquids (ILs) have good application prospects in carbon capture due to their excellent properties, which provide a new chance to develop efficient and reversible carbon capture systems. This paper reviews the recent progress in CO chemical absorption by ILs, such as N-site, O-site, C-site, and multi-site functionalized ILs.

The imperative for developing robust tools to detect, analyze, and characterize viruses has become increasingly evident as they continue to threaten human health. In this review, we focus on recent advancements in studying human viruses with flow virometry (FV), an emerging technique that has gained considerable momentum over the past 5 years. These advancements include the application of FV in viral surface phenotyping, viral protein functionality, virus sorting, vaccine development, and diagnostics.

Pharmaceutical supplementation and dietary fortification are the most common approaches to reducing vitamin deficits. To improve the health and nutritional value of crops, agronomic biofortification necessitates the direct application of nutrients. Producers using micronutrient fertilizers to increase the fortification of crops are essential to the success of biofortification.
