Published: April 2014

A new method of plasma electron density measurement using interferometric phases (fractional fringes) of an optical frequency comb interferometer is proposed. Using the characteristics of the optical frequency comb laser, high density measurement can be achieved without fringe counting errors. Simulations show that the short wavelength and wide wavelength range of the laser source and low noise in interferometric phases measurements are effective to reduce ambiguity of measured density.

High-Performance Shear Mode Ultrasonic Transducer Operating at Ultrahigh Temperature Fabricated with BiSiO Piezoelectric Crystal.

Shear mode ultrasonic waves are in high demand for structural health monitoring (SHM) applications owing to their nondispersive characteristics, singular mode, and minimal energy loss, especially in harsh environments. However, the generation and detection of a pure shear wave using conventional piezoelectric materials present substantial challenges because of their complex piezoelectric response, involving multiple modes. Herein, we introduce a high-quality piezoelectric crystal BiSiO (BSO), exhibiting a robust piezoelectric response ( = 45.

Background: We aimed to describe a 2-year outcome of eyes managed by practitioners benchmarked using a funnel plot by their frequency of treatment using vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors for naive retinal vein occlusion (RVO).

Methods: A multicentre, international, observational study of 29 doctors in 12 countries managing 1110 eyes with RVO commencing VEGF inhibitors between 1 January 2012-2022 tracked in the Fight Retinal Blindness! registry.

Results: We identified 3 outlying 'intensive' practitioners (managing 350/1110 eyes [32%]), 22 'typical' practitioners (604/1110, [54%]) and 4 outlying 'relaxed' practitioners (156/1110, [14%]) with respective 24-month outcomes in Branch and Central RVO including the primary outcome, mean adjusted change in visual acuity (VA) in BRVO: +16.

Unlabelled: Intrinsic capacity and quality of life of older adults are determined by many factors, including the functional state of the organ of vision.

Purpose: This study assessed the visual functions of elderly residents of Northern European Russia and examined the relationship between visual impairment and sociodemographic characteristics, ophthalmic conditions, and preservation of work capacity and social functions.

Material And Methods: This cross-sectional study included a random population sample of older adults (ages 60-74) from Arkhangelsk, Russia (=604).

Purpose: Bisphosphonates (BPs) are first line agents commonly used in the management of osteoporosis. There have been two case reports that have suggested a possible link between BPs and acute angle closure (AAC). In the absence of any large epidemiologic studies, we sought to determine the risk of AAC and OAG with bisphosphonate use in patients with osteoporosis.

Dexmedetomidine accelerates photoentrainment and affects sleep structure through the activation of SCN neurons.

Dexmedetomidine (DexM), a highly selective α-adrenoceptor agonist, significantly reduces postoperative adverse effects, including sleep and circadian rhythm disruptions. Vasoactive intestinal peptide neurons in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) regulate the synchronization of circadian rhythms with the external environment in mammals. We investigate the effects of DexM on sleep and circadian rhythms, as well as the underlying mechanisms.
