Peroxisomes play a critical role in many metabolic pathways during the plant life cycle. It has been proposed that the transition between different types of peroxisomes involves the degradation of obsolete peroxisomal enzymes via proteolytic activities in the peroxisome matrix, the cytosol, or the vacuole. Forward and reverse genetic studies recently provided evidence for autophagic degradation of peroxisomes in the vacuole of Arabidopsis seedlings. Here, we briefly review a model of pexophagy, or selective autophagy of peroxisomes, in plant cells.

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is increasingly recognized for its detrimental effects on human health, with substantial evidence linking exposure to various forms of cell death and dysfunction across multiple organ systems. This review examines key cell death mechanisms triggered by PM2.

Unlabelled: Despite a deep understanding of Parkinson's disease (PD) and levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID) pathogenesis, current therapies are insufficient to effectively manage the progressive nature of PD or halt LID. Growing hypotheses suggested the NOD-like receptor 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome and orphan nuclear receptor-related 1 (Nurr1)/glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) coactivator-1α (PGC-1α)/sirtuin 3 (SIRT3) pathways as potential avenues for halting neuroinflammation and oxidative stress in PD.
Aims: This study investigated for the first time the neuroprotective effect of canagliflozin against PD and LID in rotenone-intoxicated rats, emphasizing the crosstalk among the NLRP3/caspase-1 cascade, PGC-1α/SIRT3 pathway, mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR)/beclin-1, and Nurr1/β-catenin/GSK-3β pathways as possible treatment strategies in PD and LID.

Neurological disorders refer to the pathological changes of the nervous system involving multiple pathological mechanisms characterized by complex pathogenesis and poor prognosis. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) is a ligand-activated transcription factor that is a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily. PPAR has attracted considerable attention in the past decades as one of the potential targets for the treatment of neurological disorders.

Mutations in the mitochondrial enzyme propionyl-CoA carboxylase (PCC) cause propionic aciduria (PA). Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a known long-term complication. However, good metabolic control and standard therapy fail to prevent CKD.

Recent research has illuminated the pivotal role of the hypoxia-inducible factor-2α (HIF-2α) / peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) pathway in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) progression. Meanwhile, HIF-2α was reported that involved in iron regulation, and aberrant iron distribution derived liver lipogenesis. Therefore, we hypothesize that HIF-2a exacerbates fatty liver by affecting iron distribution.
