Mandibular hypo-hyperdontia: A report of three cases.

Published: July 2013

Dental anomalies of tooth number in development of the permanent dentition are quite common than the primary dentition, however, the combined occurrence of hypodontia and hyperdontia is a rare phenomenon, especially in the same dental arch. The purpose of this report is to describe a case of concomitant hypo-hyperdontia (CHH) in three patients (one girl and two boys) with missing mandibular central incisor and an erupted mandibular mesiodens. Three rare cases of mandibular CHH were observed during routine examination, where the two anomalies manifested in the anterior region of the mandible. Furthermore, these are the only cases exhibited taurodontism in association with mandibular CHH.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the incidence and clinical characteristics of concomitant hypodontia and hyperdontia (CHH) by performing panoramic radiographs.

Methods: A total of 41 648 panoramic radiographs of pediatric patients who were admitted to the hospitals from January 2019 to May 2021 were reviewed, and 145 CHH patients were included in the study. The presence of CHH was recorded.

Eyestalk neuropeptide identification in the female red deep-sea crab, Chaceon quinquedens.

Eyestalk-derived neuropeptides, primarily the crustacean hyperglycemic hormone (CHH) neuropeptide family, regulate vitellogenesis in decapod crustaceans. The red deep-sea crab, Chaceon quinquedens, a cold-water species inhabiting depths between 200 and 1800 m, has supported a small fishery, mainly harvesting adult males in the eastern US for over 40 years. This study aimed to understand the role of eyestalk-neuropeptides in vitellogenesis in C.

Background: Biallelic mutations in the non-coding RNA gene cause Cartilage-hair hypoplasia (CHH), a rare skeletal dysplasia in which the main phenotypic characteristic is severe progressive growth retardation.

Objective: This study compared the cranial dimensions of individuals with CHH to healthy subjects.

Methods: Lateral skull radiographs of 17 patients with CHH (age range 10 to 59 years) and 34 healthy individuals (age range 10 to 54 years) were analyzed for relative position of the jaws to skull base, craniofacial height and depth, as well as vertical growth pattern of the lower jaw, anterior cranial base angle, and the relationship between the cervical spine and skull base.

Crossed beaks have been observed in at least 12 chicken strains around the world, which severely impairs their growth and welfare. To explore the intrinsic factor causing crossed beaks, this study measured the length of bilateral mandibular ramus of affected birds, and investigated the genome-wide DNA methylation profiles of normal and affected sides of mandibular condyle. Results showed that the trait was caused by impaired development of unilateral mandibular ramus, which is extended through calcification of mandibular condyle.

The Crustacean Hyperglycemic Hormone Superfamily: Progress Made in the Past Decade.

Early studies recognizing the importance of the decapod eyestalk in the endocrine regulation of crustacean physiology-molting, metabolism, reproduction, osmotic balance, etc.-helped found the field of crustacean endocrinology. Characterization of putative factors in the eyestalk using distinct functional bioassays ultimately led to the discovery of a group of structurally related and functionally diverse neuropeptides, crustacean hyperglycemic hormone (CHH), molt-inhibiting hormone (MIH), gonad-inhibiting hormone (GIH) or vitellogenesis-inhibiting hormone (VIH), and mandibular organ-inhibiting hormone (MOIH).
