Free radicals have been implicated in the pathogenesis of cancer along with cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, pulmonary and inflammatory disorders. Further, the relationship between oxidative stress and disease is distinctively established. Clinical trials using anti-oxidants for the prevention of disease progression have indicated some beneficial effects.

Introduction: Our recent meta-analyses have demonstrated that high-intensity interval training (HIIT) causes a range of mean changes in various measures and predictors of endurance and sprint performance in athletes. Here, we extend the analyses to relationships between mean changes of these measures and consider implications for understanding and improving HIIT that were not apparent in the previous analyses.
Methods: The data were mean changes from HIIT with highly trained endurance and elite other (mainly team sport) athletes in studies where two or more measures or predictors of performance were available.
The capsaicin receptor, TRPV1, mediates the detection of harmful chemical and thermal stimuli. Overactivation of TRPV1 can lead to cellular damage or death through excitotoxicity, a phenomenon associated with painful neuropathy and the paradoxical use of capsaicin as an analgesic. We exploited capsaicin-evoked death to conduct a systematic analysis of excitotoxicity through a genome-wide CRISPRi screen, thereby revealing a comprehensive network of regulatory pathways.

Recent evidence indicates that PZA acts through disruption of coenzyme A synthesis under conditions that promote cellular stress. In contrast to its bactericidal action , PZA shows weak bacteriostatic activity against in axenic culture.

Pathogenic bacteria trigger complex molecular interactions in hosts that are characterized mainly by an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as an inflammation-associated response. To counteract oxidative damage, cells respond through protective mechanisms to promote resistance and avoid tissue damage and infection; among these cellular mechanisms the activation or inhibition of the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is frequently observed. The transcription factor Nrf2 is considered the regulator of several hundred cytoprotective and antioxidant genes.
