Modification of Siepser sliding suture technique for iris repair and endothelial keratoplasty.

Published: May 2014

We describe a technique for closed-chamber iris repair that prevents knot and suture tail exposure into the anterior chamber. This modification of the Siepser sliding slipknot suture technique is particularly important in the setting of combined or future endothelial keratoplasty to prevent mechanical damage to donor endothelium during transplantation.

Iris reconstruction suturing techniques.

Curr Opin Ophthalmol

January 2020

Shiley Eye Institute, University of California San Diego, San Diego, California Wills Eye Hospital, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Mainline Health, Jefferson Health System, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Purpose Of Review: When patients have large iris defects, they may experience debilitating glare, halos, and unfavorable cosmetic appearance. Surgical iris reconstruction can alleviate these symptoms. This article will review current suturing techniques for iris reconstruction, as well as the benefits and drawbacks to various suturing methods.

In this study, the longitudinally controlled modification of the inner surfaces of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) track-etched pores was explored using an electrochemically assisted Cu(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) click reaction. Cylindrical or conical PET track-etched pores were first decorated with ethynyl groups via the amidation of surface -COOH groups, filled with a solution containing Cu(II) and azide-tagged fluorescent dye, and then sandwiched between comb-shaped and planar gold electrodes. Cu(I) was produced at the comb-shaped working electrode by the reduction of Cu(II); it diffused along the pores toward the other electrode and catalyzed CuAAC between an azide-tagged fluorescent dye and a pore-tethered ethynyl group.

Single suture iris-to-capsulorhexis fixation for in-the-bag intraocular lens subluxation.

J Cataract Refract Surg

November 2015

Unlabelled: We present a simplified modification to a technique for early or mild in-the-bag subluxation that avoids conjunctival and scleral incisions and minimizes intraocular manipulation. While the capsulorhexis edge is grasped with an intraocular forceps to stabilize the IOL-capsular bag complex, a 10-0 polypropylene suture on a long curved needle is used to secure the fibrotic superior capsulorhexis edge to the midperipheral iris at 12 o'clock using a combination of a modified McCannel suture and a Siepser sliding knot.

Single pass, single suture technique for repair of traumatic mydriasis.

Eur J Ophthalmol

February 2014

Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India.

Purpose: We describe a 52-year-old man with pseudophakia and traumatic mydriasis who presented with severe glare.

Methods: A modification of the Siepser sliding knot technique-single pass, single suture technique-allows the surgeon to create a locking knot at the extraocular space while maintaining a closed chamber, a safer and easier method for traumatic mydriasis repair.

Results: A reduction of pupil size from 8.
