The transition rates from the yrast 2+ and 4+ states in the self-conjugate 72Kr nucleus were studied via lifetime measurements employing the GRETINA array with a novel application of the recoil-distance method. The large collectivity observed for the 4+→2+ transition suggests a prolate character of the excited states. The reduced collectivity previously reported for the 2+→0+ transition was confirmed. The irregular behavior of collectivity points to the occurrence of a rapid oblate-prolate shape transition in 72Kr, providing stringent tests for advanced theories to describe the shape coexistence and its evolution.

In this study, the role of a transition metal complex in improving hydrolysis efficiency during nanocellulose production was analysed. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were extracted from date seeds by incorporating a copper metal complex during HCl hydrolysis. In contrast to traditional HCl hydrolysis at moderate conditions, which yielded only microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), this approach resulted in the extraction of CNCs with a 10 % improved yield compared to MCC.

Seventeen electronic states of the dication VH were characterized by the SA-CASSCF/icMRCI methodology using very extended basis sets; 11 were described for the first time. Potential energy curves were constructed and the associated spectroscopic parameters evaluated. Triplet and quintet states correlating with the V + H channel are thermodynamic stable.

During the transition from fresh waters to terrestrial habitats, significant adaptive changes occurred in kidney function of vertebrates to cope with varying osmotic challenges. We investigated the mechanisms driving water conservation in the mammalian nephron, focusing on the relative contributions of active ion transport and Starling forces. We constructed a thermodynamic model to estimate the entropy generation associated with different processes within the nephron, and analyzed their relative importance in urine formation.

Background: Accumulation of β-amyloid (Aβ) plaque in the brain is a pathological hallmark of Alzheimer's Disease (AD). We recently reported that the application of mild magnetic hyperthermia is feasible to target and disrupt Aβ plaques by means of generating localized heat on the surface of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) targeted to Aβ aggregates in response to a remotely applied alternating magnetic field (AMF) (Nanomedicine:NBM, 2021). The objective of the current study is to demonstrate the feasibility of mild magnetic hyperthermia stimulation (MNP/AMF) in clearing Aβ deposits in vivo using 5xFAD mice, a well-established transgenic AD mouse model.

The collective surface motility and swarming behavior of microbes play a crucial role in the formation of polymicrobial communities, shaping ecosystems as diverse as animal and human microbiota, plant rhizospheres, and various aquatic environments. In the human oral microbiota, T9SS-driven gliding bacteria transport non-motile microbes and bacteriophages as cargo, thereby influencing the spatial organization and structural complexity of these polymicrobial communities. However, the physical rules governing the dispersal of T9SS-driven bacterial swarms are barely understood.
