The overexpression of glutathione (GSH) within the tumor microenvironment has long been considered as the major obstacle for reactive oxygen species (ROS)-based antitumor therapies. To address this challenge, a selenite (SeO) and ferric ion co-doped hydroxyapatite (SF-HAP) nanohybrid was synthesized, which is then introduced into poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) to prepare porous scaffold by selective laser sintering to continuously release Fe and SeO ions. Of great significance is the released SeO catabolize GSH to generate superoxide anion (O) rather than directly eliminating GSH, thereby reversing the obstacle posed by its overexpression and achieving a "waste-to-treasure" transformation.

Selenium disulfide (often referred to as SeS) encompasses a family of mixed selenium-sulfide eight-membered rings, traditionally used as an anti-dandruff agent in shampoos. SeS can be produced by reacting hydrogen sulfide (HS) with selenite (SeO) under acidic conditions. This chemistry is also possible with natural spring waters that are rich in HS, thus providing an avenue for the more sustainable, green production of high-quality SeS particles from an abundant natural source.

Cadmium stress (CS) induced the peroxide damage and inhibited wheat photosynthetic capacity and growth. Compared to CS, selenium (Se) application plus CS bolstered chlorophyll and carotenoid contents, photosynthetic rate, the maximum photochemical efficiency of PSII, the quantum yield of PSII photochemistry, and photochemical quenching, superoxide dismutase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, glutathione reductase, L-galactono-1,4-lactone dehydrogenase, and gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase activities, ascorbic acid and glutathione contents, AsA/dehydroascorbic acid and GSH/oxidized glutathione, and decreased nonphotochemical quenching (q), antioxidant biomarkers malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide contents, and electrolyte leakage (EL). At the same time, Se alone declined antioxidant biomarkers contents, q and EL, and augmented the rest of the aforementioned indexes.

Current crop stress resistance research suggests that the prominent stimulants nanoselenium (NSe) and melatonin (MT) might improve tea safety, quality, and stress resistance induced by the widely used nonselective herbicide glufosinate (GLU). Their biofortification effects on tea growth, antioxidant activity, and secondary metabolism pathways response to GLU remain unclear. Here, NSe, MT, and their combination NSe-MT effectively reduced 26.

Recycling food waste by feeding it to insects can result in the continuous production of high-quality animal feed protein and organic fertilizer. However, the bioconversion efficiency and safety of using insects as feed protein for animal breeding are important factors limiting the development of this technology. Therefore, we aimed to optimize the efficiency of bioconversion of food waste using Lucilia sericata maggot (LSM).
