In the title complex, [Cu(I)Cu(II)(CN)3(C4H12N2)2], the Cu(I) and Cu(II) ions and a bridging cyanide group lie on a twofold rotation axis. The Cu(II) ion is in a slightly-distorted square-pyramidal coordination environment, with the N atoms of the two symmetry-related N-ethyl-ethylenedi-amine ligands occupying the basal positions and an N-bonded cyanide group in the apical position. The Cu(I) ion is in a trigonal-planar coordination environment, bonded to the C atom of the bridging cyanide group and to two terminal cyanide groups. In the crystal, N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds involving two of the symmetry-unique N-H groups of the N-ethyl-ethylenedi-amine ligands and the N atoms of the terminal cyanide ligands link the mol-ecules into strands along [010].

Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) is a horticultural crop known for its sensitivity to mechanical damage and susceptibility to postharvest decay. In recent years, various strategies have been implemented to enhance both the yield and quality of strawberries, among which the application of nitric oxide-producing compounds has garnered special attention. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of varying concentrations of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), specifically 0, 200, 400, and 600 μM, on strawberries (cv.

The atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) has fluctuated throughout Earth's history. However, the role of CO2 in prebiotic chemistry has predominantly been limitedly postulated as a C1 precursor, which can be reduced to carbon monoxide or methane mimicking the Wood-Ljungdahl pathway. Herein we present neglected roles of CO2 as an active promoter in accessing biologically important C3-builidng blocks such as lactate, via redox-economic reaction cycles from cyanide (C1) and acetaldehyde (C2).

In this report, we successfully engineered a novel probe based on an acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A) architecture featuring dicyanovinyl-substituted thieno[3,2-]thiophene, termed DCVTT. The designed probe self-assembles into luminous nanoparticles (DCVTT NPs) upon introducing mixed aqueous solutions. These fluorescent nanostructures served as a ratiometric probe for detecting cyanide (CN) ions in aqueous-based environments, owing to the robust Intramolecular Charge Transfer (ICT) characteristics of DCVTT.

The eco-friendly treatment of cyanide tailings (CT) using microorganisms is a cost-effective and promising technology. However, this process often generates the secondary pollutants, such as ammonia nitrogen (NH-N), which can adversely impacts the surrounding environment. The accumulation of NH-N is also toxic to cyanide-degrading microorganisms, presenting a significant challenge in achieving simultaneous cyanide degradation and NH₄⁺-N mitigation.

Accurate detection of cyanide exposure is crucial, particularly in forensic science. However, cyanide's high volatility and potential biochemical conversions in biological samples pose challenges for direct detection, complicating the determination of cause of death. Identifying alternative cyanide metabolites as markers may mitigate false negatives and positives, extending the detection window in poisoning cases.
