Helices are amongst the most common structures in nature and in some cases, such as tethered plant tendrils, a more complex but related shape, the hemihelix forms. In its simplest form it consists of two helices of opposite chirality joined by a perversion. A recent, simple experiment using elastomer strips reveals that hemihelices with multiple reversals of chirality can also occur, a richness not anticipated by existing analyses. Here, we show through analysis and experiments that the transition from a helical to a hemihelical shape, as well as the number of perversions, depends on the height to width ratio of the strip's cross-section. Our findings provides the basis for the deterministic manufacture of a variety of complex three-dimensional shapes from flat strips.

Objective: To investigate the frequency of epileptiform discharges associated with self-limited focal epilepsy (EDSelFEC) in children who have undergone a hemispherotomy and to evaluate whether patients with coexistence of EDSelFEC and structural hemispheric epilepsies differ from patients without coexistence of EDSelFEC and whether there are differences between the two groups with regard to preoperative management and postoperative outcome.
Methods: Data on 131 children who underwent a hemispherotomy between January 1999 and January 2015 were retrieved from the Epilepsy center's epilepsy surgery database. Children with EDSelFEC were compared with children without EDSelFEC with respect to epileptogenic hemispheric pathology, family history, age at epilepsy onset, timing of surgery, lesion laterality, preoperative cognitive function, response to sodium channel blocker antiepileptic medication, and surgical outcome.

Epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) fused to IgG, IgA and IgM Fc domains was expressed to create IgG, IgA and IgM-like structures as anti-cancer vaccines in Nicotiana tabacum. High-mannose glycan structures were generated by adding a C-terminal endoplasmic reticulum (ER) retention motif (KDEL) to the Fc domain (FcK) to produce EpCAM-Fc and EpCAM-FcK proteins in transgenic plants via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Cross-fertilization of EpCAM-Fc (FcK) transgenic plants with Joining chain (J-chain, J and JK) transgenic plants led to stable expression of large quaternary EpCAM-IgA Fc (EpCAM-A) and IgM-like (EpCAM-M) proteins.

At the end of cell division, the nuclear envelope reassembles around the decondensing chromosomes. Female meiosis culminates in two consecutive cell divisions of the oocyte, meiosis I and II, which are separated by a brief transition phase known as interkinesis. Due to the absence of chromosome decondensation and the suppression of genome replication during interkinesis, it has been widely assumed that the nuclear envelope does not reassemble between meiosis I and II.

Recent clinical studies have highlighted the presence of microclots in the form of amyloid fibrinogen particles (AFPs) in plasma samples from Long COVID patients. However, the clinical significance of these abnormal, nonfibrillar self-assembly aggregates of human fibrinogen remains debated due to the limited understanding of their structural and biological characteristics. In this study, we present a method for generating mimetic microclots in vitro.

Two-dimensional (2D) high-entropy transition metal dichalcogenides (HETMDs) have gained significant interest due to their structural properties and correlated possibilities for high-end devices. However, the controlled synthesis of 2D HETMDs presents substantial challenges owing to the distinction in the inherent characteristics among diverse metal elements in the synthesis, such as saturated vapor pressure of precursors and formation energy of products. Here, we present the synthesis of a 2D HETMD single crystal with 0.
