Double network polymers (DNP) of different compositions were photosynthesized using sodium alginate (NaAlg) and superabsorbent polymer (SAP). They were characterized by FT-IR, thermal stability (TG), morphology by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and its mechanical properties were also evaluated for their dye adsorption-desorption characteristics via adsorption isotherms at different temperature and pH values. The spectrophotometric determination of adsorbed dye indicated that the maximum dye uptake in column mode was 439 mg/g. The nearly identical visible absorption spectra of the fabrics dyed with virgin and recovered dyes indicated that the recovered dye retained its structural stability during column recovery and the dyed fabrics possess good color fastness properties. Dye adsorption kinetic and de-sorption mechanism were found to be pseudo-first-order and non-Fickian, respectively. The adsorption showed best fit for Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The changes in the thermodynamic parameters namely Gibbs free energy (ΔG°), entropy (ΔS°) and enthalpy (ΔH°) for the dye-adsorbent systems inferred that the adsorption process was spontaneous and exothermic.

The preference of water self-ions (hydronium and hydroxide) toward air/oil-water interfaces is one of the hottest topics in water research due to its importance for understanding properties, phenomena, and reactions of interfaces. In this work, we performed enhanced-sampling molecular dynamics simulations based on state-of-the-art neural network potentials with approximate M06-2X accuracy to investigate the propensity of hydronium and hydroxide ions at air/oil(decane)-water interfaces, which can simultaneously describe well the water autoionization process forming these ions, the recombination of ions, and the ionic distribution along the normal distance to the interface by employing a set of appropriate Voronoi collective variables. A stable ionic double-layer distribution is observed near the air-water interface, while the distribution is different at oil-water interfaces, where hydronium tends to be repelled from the interface into the bulk water, whereas hydroxide, with an interfacial stabilization free energy of -0.

Off-axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy (OA-ICOS) allows the laser to be reflected multiple times inside the cavity, increasing the effective absorption path length and thus improving sensitivity. However, OA-ICOS systems are affected by various types of noise, and traditional filtering methods offer low processing efficiency and perform limited feature extraction. Deep learning models enable us to extract important features from large-scale, complex spectral data and analyze them efficiently and accurately.

Supramolecular oleogels, in which low-molecular weight oleogelators self-assemble into various nanostructures through non-covalent interactions, have witnessed increasing research activity in various fields of science, including food, cosmetics or remediation of marine oil spills. Herein, we report a simple scalable and environmentally friendly carbohydrate-based oleogelator, namely, the sodium salt of ,'-dimethyl β- glucosyl barbiturate (GlcBMe) that self-assembles through sonication to induce the gelation of polar organic solvent and later of non-polar vegetable oils by cationic exchange with quaternary ammonium surfactants. Water-soluble GlcBMe was capable of forming self-assembled fibrillar network bridging insoluble particles in the oil by sonication in the presence of a small amount of water.

Cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying bipolar disorder (BD) and its treatment are still poorly understood. Here we examined the role of adaptations in risk-taking using a reward-guided decision-making task. We recruited volunteers with high (n = 40) scores on the Mood Disorder Questionnaire, MDQ, suspected of high risk for bipolar disorder and those with low-risk scores (n = 37).

Critical-sized bone defects in osteosarcoma treatment demand multifunctional scaffolds that must effectively integrate two key functions, promoting osteogenesis and delivering targeted chemoprevention. This study introduces a dual-component system featuring pH-responsive hydrogels and hydroxyapatite-based fiber-reinforced biomimetic scaffolds designed for controlled and localized curcumin delivery, while addressing its solubility and stability issues. The hydrogel system comprises a double network of polyacrylic acid, sodium alginate, carboxymethyl cellulose, and potato starch, specifically modified to encapsulate curcumin.
