Article Abstract

Some marine bacteria collected around deep-sea hydrothermal vents are able to produce, in laboratory conditions, complex and innovative exopolysaccharides. In a previous study, the mesophilic strain Alteromonas macleodii subsp. fijiensis biovar deepsane was collected on the East Pacific Rise at 2600 m depth. It was isolated from a polychaete annelid Alvinella pompejana and is able to synthesise and excrete the exopolysaccharide deepsane. Biological activities have been screened and some protective properties have been established. Deepsane is commercially available in cosmetics under the name of Abyssine(®) for soothing and reducing irritation of sensitive skin against chemical, mechanical and UVB aggression. This study presents structural data for this original and complex bacterial exopolysaccharide and highlights some structural similarities with other known EPS produced by marine Alteromonas strains.

Access to information about chemicals in products and articles is critical for supporting enforcement of chemical regulations, assessing risks from chemicals, allowing informed consumer choices, and enabling product circularity. In this work, we identified and evaluated available databases (DBs) on chemicals in products and articles from the literature using a defined protocol and from European national market surveillance authorities, nongovernmental agencies, and industrial sector groups using questionnaires. This is the first comprehensive review of DBs that provide information about chemicals in products and articles.

Experiences of patients who retest positive for SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant after discharge: a qualitative study.

J Infect Dev Ctries

The Cancer Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Cancer Prevention Research Institute, Shandong Cancer Hospital), Jinan 250117, China.

Introduction: In this study, we analyzed the psychological aspects of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients who were discharged from the hospitals in Shanghai, China, and later had positive nucleic acid retest results for the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Omicron variant infection (re-positive COVID-19). The purpose was to gain clarity on the patients' needs and to provide evidence for the medical staff to deliver scientific and targeted health care to the patients.

Methodology: We screened patients who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant infection by nucleic acid testing after having previously recovered from a COVID-19 infection and being discharged from Shanghai shelter hospitals or COVID-19-designated hospitals from April 3, 2022, to May 10, 2022.
