We consider an oblate Bose-Einstein condensate of heteronuclear polar molecules in a weak applied electric field. This system supports a rich quasiparticle spectrum that plays a critical role in determining its bulk dielectric properties. In particular, in sufficiently weak fields the system undergoes a polarization wave rotonization, leading to the development of textured electronic structure and a dielectric instability that is characteristic of the onset of a negative static dielectric function.

Quantum computers promise a qualitative speedup in solving a broad spectrum of practical optimization problems. The latter can be mapped onto the task of finding low-energy states of spin glasses, which is known to be exceedingly difficult. Using D-Wave's 5000-qubit quantum processor, we demonstrate that a recently proposed iterative cyclic quantum annealing algorithm can find deep low-energy states in record time.

We investigate the driven-dissipative dynamics of multilevel atomic arrays interacting via dipolar interactions at subwavelength spacings. Unlike two-level atoms in the weakly excited regime, multilevel atoms can become strongly entangled. The entanglement manifests as the growth of spin waves in the ground-state manifold and survives after turning off the drive.

Harnessing chiral optical forces facilitates numerous applications in enantioselective sorting and sensing. To date, significant challenges persist in substantiating the holistic complex theorem of these forces as experimental demonstrations employ common light waves (e.g.

Charge-density waves (CDWs) are correlated states of matter, in which the electronic density is modulated periodically due to electronic and phononic interactions. Often, CDW phases coexist with other correlated states, such as superconductivity, spin-density waves, or Mott insulators. Controlling CDW phases may, therefore, enable the manipulation of the energy landscape of these interacting states.

Controlling the functional properties of quantum materials with light has emerged as a frontier of condensed-matter physics, leading to the discovery of various light-induced phases of matter, such as superconductivity, ferroelectricity, magnetism and charge density waves. However, in most cases, the photoinduced phases return to equilibrium on ultrafast timescales after the light is turned off, limiting their practical applications. Here we use intense terahertz pulses to induce a metastable magnetization with a remarkably long lifetime of more than 2.
