Aim: Despite the clinical importance and significant social burden of neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) in dementia, the underlying neurobiological mechanism remains poorly understood. Recently, neuroimaging-derived brain-age estimation by machine-learning analysis has shown promise as an individual-level biomarker. We investigated the relationship between NPS and brain-age in amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and early dementia.

The association between childhood trauma (CT), stressful life events (SLE) and the onset and severity of major depressive disorder (MDD) has not been extensively studied. This study aimed to investigate the separate and combined association of CT and SLE with the onset and severity of MDD. A total of 503 patients with MDD and 503 controls were included.

Catatonia may manifest as an independent entity or as a feature of a neuropsychiatric or medical illness. While electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is the gold standard treatment for catatonia, it is typically administered if the patient's symptoms fail to respond to benzodiazepines. We describe the case of a 22-year-old male with Budd Chiari induced cirrhosis and no prior psychiatric history, who presented with symptoms of psychosis and hepatic encephalopathy, was treated in the ICU for multi-factorial delirium, developed symptoms of catatonia that failed to respond to lorazepam, ultimately requiring ECT with a favorable response.

Objective: Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) are considered diagnostic and prognostic indicators of dementia and are attributable to neurodegenerative processes. Little is known about the prognostic value of early NPS on executive functioning (EF) decline in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). We examined whether baseline NPS predicted the rate of executive function (EF) decline among older adults with ADRD.
