Simultaneous improvement in CO2 permeability and CO2/N2 selectivity was obtained from mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) containing dual-functionalized mesoporous TiO2 hollow nanospheres (f-MTHS). Dual functionality resulted in the increased CO2 affinity and improved interfacial properties between inorganic nanofillers and the polymer matrix.

The development of targeted drug delivery systems has been a pivotal area in nanomedicine, addressing challenges like low drug loading capacity, uncontrolled release, and systemic toxicity. This study aims to develop and evaluate dual-functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) for targeted delivery of celecoxib, enhancing drug loading, achieving controlled release, and reducing systemic toxicity through amine grafting and imidazolyl polyethyleneimine (PEI) gatekeepers. MSN were synthesized using the sol-gel method and functionalized with (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) to create amine-grafted MSN (MSN-NH).

In this study, a novel polydopamine and C dual-functionalized magnetic core-shell mesoporous silica (FeO@nSiO@mSiO@PDA-C) nanocomposite was designed and synthesized, which was employed as an adsorbent to extract illegal drugs from urine samples by magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) procedures. The as-prepared nanocomposite was fully characterized and combined with ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) to monitor 12 trace illegal drugs and metabolites, including 6-monoacetylmorphine (6-MAM), morphine (MOR), codeine (COD), amphetamine (AMP), methamphetamine (MAMP), 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), ketamine (KET), norketamine (NK), cocaine (COC), benzoylecgonine (BZE) and methcathinone (MC). Optimal MSPE procedures were achieved by fully investigating parameters of activation, adsorption, washing and desorption steps.

Janus nanoparticles with an anisotropic feature concentrated multiple properties on a single carrier, providing synergistic effects. In this study, dual-functionalized Janus nanoparticles (HA-JMSN/DOX-DMMA) were constructed with a tumor-targeting ligand (hyaluronic acid, HA) modified on the one side and a charge reversal group (2,3-dimethylmaleic anhydride, DMMA) on the other side. The drug release of HA-JMSN/DOX-DMMA was positively correlated with the acidity of the environment.
