Background: Glymphatic system dysfunction as characterized by increased MRI-visible Perivascular Spaces (PVS) is speculated to play a role in the acceleration of amyloid accumulation in Alzheimer's Disease (AD). However, while PVS is also prevalent amongst Vascular Dementia (VD), the pathological distinctions between regional PVS in AD- and VD-driven cohorts remain largely unknown. Through a mixed dementia cohort, we examined these pathology-driven localization patterns via automated PVS segmentations from T2-weighted MRI.

Background: Studies suggest that structural changes in the midbrain are linked to Alzheimer's disease (AD) symptoms such as memory, sleep, and emotional disturbances. Brainstem atrophy, particularly in the locus coeruleus, has also been linked with poorer executive function. Studies showing brainstem as one of the first regions affected by AD largely employed novel imaging techniques such as neuromelanin-sensitive MRI, which is limited to research environments.

Background: Imaging and plasma markers are used as key indicators of disease for Alzheimer's disease (AD) but their usefulness in predicting regional tau pathology is relatively understudied. Our objective was to construct predictive models for regional tau pathology measured on postmortem brain tissue using multiple ante-mortem AD biomarkers. We focused on hippocampal and parietal regions that were immunostained with AT8 and 2E9 that reflect early and advanced aspects of tangle maturity, respectively.
