Protein arginine methyltransferase 7 (PRMT7) is a member of a family of enzymes that catalyze the transfer of methyl groups from S-adenosyl-l-methionine to nitrogen atoms on arginine residues. Here, we describe the crystal structure of Caenorhabditis elegans PRMT7 in complex with its reaction product S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine. The structural data indicated that PRMT7 harbors two tandem repeated PRMT core domains that form a novel homodimer-like structure. S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine bound to the N-terminal catalytic site only; the C-terminal catalytic site is occupied by a loop that inhibits cofactor binding. Mutagenesis demonstrated that only the N-terminal catalytic site of PRMT7 is responsible for cofactor binding.

This paper presented the preparation, characterization, and adsorption properties of Brazil nut shell activated carbon for catechol removal from aqueous solutions. The equilibrium adsorption of catechol molecules on this activated was experimentally quantified at pH 6 and temperatures ranging from 25 to 55 °C, and at 25 °C and pH ranging from 6 to 10. These results were utilized to elucidate the role of surface functionalities through statistical physics calculations.

Natural enzymes feature distinctive second spheres near their active sites, leading to exquisite catalytic reactivity. However, incumbent synthetic strategies offer limited versatility in functionalizing the second spheres of heterogeneous catalysts. Here, we prepare an enzyme-mimetic single Co-N atom catalyst with an elaborately configured pendant amine group in the second sphere via 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition, which switches the oxygen reduction reaction selectivity from the 4e to the 2e pathway under acidic conditions.

The β-1,4 galactosylation catalyzed by β-1,4 galactosyltransferases (β4Gal-Ts) is not only closely associated with diverse physiological and pathological processes in humans but also widely applied in the -glycan modification of protein glycoengineering. The loop-closing process of β4Gal-Ts is an essential intermediate step intervening in the binding events of donor substrate (UDP-Gal/Mn) and acceptor substrate during its catalytic cycle, with a significant impact on the galactosylation activities. However, the molecular mechanisms in regulating loop-closing dynamics are not entirely clear.

Nucleoredoxin (NXN) is a prominent oxidoreductase enzyme, classified under the thioredoxin family, and plays a pivotal role in regulating cellular redox homeostasis. Although the functional characterization of NXN has been extensively studied in mammals, its role in fish remains relatively unexplored. In this study, the NXN gene from Planiliza haematocheilus (PhNXN) was molecularly and functionally characterized using in silico tools, expression analyses, and in vitro assays.

Establishing energy correlations among different metals can accelerate the discovery of efficient and cost-effective catalysts for complex reactions. Using a recently introduced coordination-based model, we can predict site-specific metal binding energies (Δ ) that can be used as a descriptor for chemical reactions. In this study, we have examined a range of metals including Ag, Au, Co, Cu, Ir, Ni, Os, Pd, Pt, Rh, and Ru and found linear correlations between predicted Δ and adsorption energies of CH and O (Δ and Δ ) at various coordination environments for all the considered metals.
