Background: Patients' evaluation of care presents an essential dimension of the quality of care. The aim of this exploratory study was to determine which factors of EUROPEP-Dental were associated with overall patients' evaluation of oral health care.
Methods: Data were collected from 8,160 patients from 106 dental practices (response rate 77%) who completed the 30-item EUROPEP-Dental questionnaire. The possible answers ranged from 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent). The EUROPEP-Dental questionnaire covers four domains: 'dentist-patient relationship' (11 items), 'accessibility and waiting time' (10 items), 'quality of care' (six items), 'costs of care' (three items). Each domain was aggregated by mean scores of the associated items. Regression analyses were performed in addition to descriptive analyses.
Results: Over 66% of the patients were overall positive with their dental care. Linear regression analyses were performed with patient satisfaction as the dependent outcome variable. The item 'medical-technical quality of care' showed the highest score (R2 = 0.378) of explained variance, while the EUROPEP-Dental domain 'quality of care' showed the highest score (R2 = 0.467) for explained variance regarding overall patient satisfaction.
Conclusions: The results are important for understanding patients' priorities with regard to oral health care and for identifying possible areas for improvement of quality. The evaluation of patient perspective on quality of oral health care is likely to continue to be an important aspect of oral health-care evaluation.

Background: Dental care before pregnancy is critical for preventing poor oral health, which is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. People with low incomes, however, may face insurance-related barriers to obtaining dental care. Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act increased access to dental care utilization among adults with low incomes.

Importance: The Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company (ie, Cost Plus Drugs) is a service that makes generic drugs affordable. Cortese et al recently published the top 9 most commonly used oral medications in treatment of urologic conditions and showed that Cost Plus Drugs would have provided an estimated $1.29 billion reduction in 2020 costs if they replaced the Medicare prices.

Background: Orthodontic treatment is one of the longest and most common medical interventions in adolescence. There are certain inequalities in care leading to risk factors associated with higher rates of untreated tooth malocclusion, resulting in a significant burden on oral health. Little is known about that certain psychosocial and personal risk factors influence the uptake of orthodontic treatment.

Noninvasive evaluations of hormones can contribute to the assessment of health and welfare of animals. Variations in insulin levels and sensitivity, for example, have been linked to health concerns in non-human and human primates including insulin resistance, diabetes, and heart disease, the leading cause of death in zoo-housed gorillas. Few published studies have assessed insulin concentrations in western lowland gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla), and all did so using serum.

Background: People undergoing major orthopaedic surgery are at increased risk of postoperative thromboembolic events. Low molecular weight heparins (LMWHs) are recommended for thromboprophylaxis in this population. New oral anticoagulants, including direct factor Xa inhibitors, are recommended as alternatives.
