A Case Report of Post-Operative Jöd-Basedow Phenomennon Following Oral and IV Iodine Contrast Administration.

Published: April 2014

This is a case of thyrotoxicosis, due to the Jöd-Basedow phenomenon following administration of oral and IV iodinated contrast in a patient with history of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) and small bowel obstruction. The patient developed atrial fibrillation and had an extended stay in the intensive care unit. Given the aging population with possible subclinical hyperthyroidism, multinodular goiter, and the rise in contrast administration for routine diagnostic studies, this case serves to raise awareness of the risks of "routine" tests administered to our aging patient population.

Objective: In 2021, the US Food and Drug Administration issued a safety warning concerning lamotrigine use in patients with underlying cardiac disorders. This warning was based on in vitro data that predicted class Ib antiarrhythmic activity for lamotrigine. Therefore, we investigated the proarrhythmic potential of lamotrigine in the murine heart and compared its effect with flecainide.

The impact of hyperlipidemia on fuel selection has never been investigated in fish. This study quantifies how Intralipid administration affects: (i) mobilization of lipids (lipolytic rate: glycerol) and carbohydrates (hepatic glucose production: glucose) in rainbow trout, and (ii) key proteins involved in the regulation of fuel metabolism that could explain changes in glycerol and glucose kinetics. Results show that Intralipid triples lipolytic rate (from 2.

Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are ubiquitous enzymes that catalyze reversibly both the hydration and dehydration reactions of CO and HCO-, respectively. Higher plants contain many different isoforms of CAs that can be classified into α-, β- and γ-type subfamilies. β-type CAs play a key role in the CO-concentrating mechanism, thereby contributing to efficient photosynthesis in the C plants in addition to many other biochemical reactions in plant metabolism.

Introduction: Although there are a number of neoadjuvant immunotherapy combinations that can be applied to the treatment of perioperative non-small cell lung cancer patients, the optimal treatment combination strategy has not yet been determined.

Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials.go and randomised controlled trials (RCTs) from major international conferences for literature related to neoadjuvant immunotherapy combinations published as first-line treatment options for non-small cell lung cancer from the start of the library to 20 February 2024, and performed a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Background: Liver transplantation (LT) is a critical intervention for individuals with end-stage liver disease; yet, post-transplant problems, especially infections, graft rejection, and chronic liver disease, are often linked to systemic inflammation. Cytokines, small signaling molecules, significantly influence immune responses during and post-liver transplantation. Nonetheless, the intricate relationships among cytokines, immune responses, and the gut microbiota, especially gut dysbiosis, are still inadequately comprehended.
