In rare circumstances, a diaphragmatic defect may allow for herniation of intra-abdominal contents into the pericardial space. These occurrences are exceedingly rare and may be due to trauma or congenital defects of the septum transversum or as the result of surgical procedures. We describe a 73-year-old female who presented with cardiac and abdominal symptoms one month after undergoing a subxiphoid pericardioperitoneal window for treatment and evaluation of a symptomatic pericardial effusion.

A 69-year-old man had an abnormal intracardiac course of a pacemaker lead. CT angiography demonstrated a window between the right upper pulmonary vein and the superior caval vein. The window was treated with covered stents in the superior caval vein, which was complicated by a chronic pericardial effusion that was treated with a pericardial window 6 months later.

Background: Dermatophytes, the primary causative agents of superficial cutaneous fungal infections in humans, present a significant therapeutic challenge owing to the increasing prevalence of recurrent infections and the emergence of antifungal resistance. To address this critical gap, this study was designed to investigate the antifungal potential of 3-benzylideneindolin-2-one against dermatophytes and assess its in vivo toxicological profile using brine shrimp and zebrafish embryo models.

Methods: The antifungal activity of 3-benzylideneindolin-2-one was evaluated against 30 clinical isolates of dermatophyte species, including Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum, Microsporum gypseum, Microsporum canis, and Epidermophyton floccosum, by determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) using the broth microdilution method.

Introduction: Cytologic evaluation of pericardial fluid is essential for diagnosing malignant pericardial effusions secondary to metastatic disease and for guiding appropriate clinical management; however, large cohort and up-to-date studies on malignancy rates and distribution of primary tumor sites is lacking.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis of pericardial fluid specimens from 2 large academic medical centers over a 10-year period was conducted. Clinical and specimen characteristics were correlated with cytologic diagnoses, and compared with surgical pathology pericardial specimens when available.

Catheter ablation procedure for symptomatic atrial fibrillation is an established treatment. Cardiac tamponade is one of the several complications associated with atrial fibrillation ablation. We present the case of a 60-year-old male with a past medical history of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis, hypotension on midodrine, atrial fibrillation status post-ablation a week prior, and a cerebrovascular accident who presented to the emergency department with complaints of weakness, nausea, vomiting, confusion and some syncopal episodes for the past few days.

Introduction: Uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (Uni-VATS) is an effective minimally invasive technique for pericardial drainage, biopsy and window creation in cases of pericardial effusion (PE).

Patients And Methods: This retrospective study evaluated 73 patients with PE who underwent pericardial window procedures between 2012 and 2024. Intraoperative and post-operative data related to Uni-VATS were assessed.
