Objective: To compare the clinical effects between closed reduction and internal fixation (CRIF) and total hip arthroplasty (THA) for displaced femoral neck fracture.
Methods: In this prospective randomized study, 285 patients aged above 65 years with hip fractures (Garden III or IV) were included from January 2001 to December 2005. The cases were randomly allocated to either the CRIF group or THA group. Patients with pathological fractures (bone tumors or metabolic bone disease), preoperative avascular necrosis of the femoral head, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, hemiplegia, long-term bed rest and complications affecting hip functions were excluded.
Results: During the 5-year follow-up, CRIF group had significantly higher rates of complication in hip joint, general complication and reoperation than THA group (38.3% vs. 12.7%, P<0.01; 45.3% vs. 21.7%, P<0.01; 33.6% vs. 10.2%, P<0.05 respectively). There was no difference in mortality between the two groups. Postoperative function of the hip joint in THA group recovered favorably with higher Harris scores.
Conclusion: For displaced fractures of the femoral neck in elderly patients, THA can achieve a lower rate of complication and reoperation, as well as better postoperative recovery of hip joint function compared with CRIF.

Extrusion-based printing of macroscopic architectures layer-by-layer offers new opportunities for constructing customized electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials. However, current research primarily focuses on improving the printability of material inks by increasing contents and adding various modifiers, controllable construction of ultralight and robust macro-architectures with structural design at both macro- and micro-scales is still challenging. Herein, we develop a graphene oxide foaming ink enriched with air bubbles for direct-ink writing, enabling the creation of macroscopic graphene architectures with arbitrary geometries.

With the global surge in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), recycling spent LIBs has become an essential and urgent research area. In the context of global efforts to promote sustainable development, and achieve energy conservation and emission reduction, advancing recycling technologies that efficiently recover critical metals like Ni, Co, Mn, and Li is crucial. Herein, a novel and environmentally friendly simplified process for selectively extracting critical metals from the mixed electrode materials of spent LIBs is proposed for the first time.

In order to reduce the unpredictability of carbon prices caused by their increasingly prominent environmental and market attributes, and to minimize their negative impact on carbon trading, further research on forecasting models for carbon price is urgently needed. To improve the accuracy of prediction, this paper proposes a carbon price forecasting method based on SSA-NSTransformer. The method includes four main steps: Firstly, decomposition of carbon price signals, using Singular Spectrum Analysis to remove noise signals; Secondly, analysis of influencing factors, using Random Forest to identify and select key influencing factors of carbon price signal components from energy price, financial market, socio-economic, and environmental aspects; Furthermore, influencing factors prediction, considering the impact of different carbon reduction targets and predicting future trends of influencing factors; And finally, carbon price prediction, considering the impact of factors based on multi-stage carbon reduction targets, using Non-stationary Transformer to predict the signal components of carbon prices, reconstructing the carbon price time series, and testing the model accuracy.

Transplantation experiments conducted in high altitude ecosystems are rising as key strategy to examine the response of individual plant transplanted across distinct elevations. However, plant physiological and biochemical performance in response to changes in abiotic factors across different species and mountain ranges is still lacking. So in the present study, we have made an attempt to link the physiological performance with that of altitudinal gradient in Ladakh by transplanting Lepidium latifolium at four different altitudinal sites.

Prcis: In the real-world, retrospective, EXPAND study of consecutive adults with glaucoma, ab-externo gel stent implantation effectively lowered intraocular pressure (34%) and the medication burden (61%), with transient/self-resolving hypotony as the most frequent adverse event (28%).
Purpose: To assess effectiveness and safety of ab-externo gel stent (GS) implantation in glaucoma.
Methods: Multicenter, real-world, retrospective study.
