Metatarsalgias refer to pain localized in the forefoot and under the metatarsal heads. It is one of the main reasons for specialist consultation. Consequences of a wide array of different diseases, they require a biomechanical and systematic approach to fully understand their cause and presentation in a variety of clinical presentations. Treatment, either conservative or surgical, is based on an accurate knowledge of their etiology and meets specific criteria of classification.

Hallux valgus (HV) deformity, which is characterized by lateral deviation and pronation of the metatarsophalangeal joint, demonstrates complex 3-dimensional challenges, thus prompting the development of various surgical approaches, including traditional Chevron osteotomy (CO) and novel triplanar Chevron osteotomy (TCO). The objective of this study is to determine TCO at various tilt angles by employing 3D printing for ex vivo osteotomy angle simulations and computer modeling to correct deformities across 3 planes, thus aiming to enhance surgical outcomes by preserving or even increasing the length of the first metatarsal and thereby overcoming the limitations of CO. In this study, we collected and analyzed non-weight-bearing CT data from 55 patients (61 feet) with mild-to-moderate hallux valgus, plantar callosities and metatarsalgia from June 2019 to June 2020.

Instability of the lesser toes metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joints is a common forefoot problem and can present as metatarsalgia, synovitis, and lesser toe deformities. The plantar plate contributes to MTP joint stability through its interaction with the plantar aponeurosis, and plantar plate insufficiency is the primary cause of MTP joint instability. Conservative treatment options, including the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, intra-articular steroid injections, orthosis, and accommodative shoe modifications, generally provide only temporary relief and do not effectively halt the progression of deformity in most cases.

Myriad pathologies affect the lesser toes. In this article, the focus is on the challenging radiological differential diagnosis of plantar plate (PP) degeneration and tear versus webspace neuroma. It is now understood that PP tear and even degeneration without tear is most accompanied by reactive pericapsular soft tissue thickening (pseudoneuroma), which contributes to neuritic symptoms that are often indistinguishable from webspace neuroma.

Background: The main goal of this study was to evaluate postoperative changes in the length of the first metatarsal (M1) and the proximal phalanx of the hallux (P1) after acellular dermal allograft interpositional arthroplasty (ADA-IPA). We hypothesized that there would be a shortening of the first ray at the first metatarsal, the proximal phalanx, or both.
Methods: In this retrospective study, we assessed patients who underwent ADA-IPA between 2019 and 2022.
