2,3-Indoledione 3-thiosemicarbazone (TSCI) and a novel compound 3-(2-(4-(4-phenoxyphenyl)thiazol-2-yl)hydrazono)indolin-2-one (FTHI) were synthesized with high yield and characterized by spectroscopic techniques. The complexation behaviors of TSCI and FTHI for various anionic species (F(-), Cl(-), Br(-), I(-), NO2(-), NO3(-), BzO(-), HSO4(-), ClO4(-)) in CH3CN were investigated and compared by UV-vis spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and (1)H NMR titration techniques. FTHI showed high degree of selectivity for fluoride over other anions. This selectivity could be easily observed by the naked eye, indicating that FTHI is potential colorimetric sensor for fluoride anion.

The antibacterial efficacy of some newly developed bis- and C3-carboxylic moieties of fluoroquinolone-linked triazole conjugates was studied. Twenty compounds from two different series of triazoles were synthesized using click chemistry and evaluated for their antibacterial activity against a Gram-positive strain, (ATCC29212), and its clinical isolate and a Gram-negative bacterial strain, (ATCC25922), and its clinical isolate. Among the compounds, 7, 9a, 9d, 9i, 10(a-d), and 10i showed excellent activity with MIC values of up to 6.

2-Thiohydantoin derivatives, including different substitutions at N-1 and C-5 (5-methyl-, 5-isopropyl-, 1-acetyl-5-methyl-, and 1-acetyl-5-isopropyl-) (1-4, respectively), were synthesized by the known literature methods. In these synthetic pathways, it was reported that enantiomerically pure 2-thiohydantions were obtained in the absence of any solvent via the reaction of L-amino acids with thiourea (1&2) and via the reaction of L-amino acids with NHSCN and acetic anhydride (3&4). However, in this study, in contrary to the previous literature studies, racemic mixtures of 2-thiohydantoins were obtained although the same synthetic methods were used.

c-Myc is a transcription factor that is overexpressed in most human cancers. Despite its challenging nature, we have developed a series of naphthalimide-imidazopyrazine conjugates to target c-Myc. The library of synthesized derivatives was tested for their anticancer activity against a nine-panel of cancer cell lines.

Introduction: Quinazoline holds significant importance in pharmaceutical chemistry, which is included in a range of drugs, clinical contenders, and bioactive compounds. N-contain-ing heterocyclic compounds of quinazoline have a wide and distinct range of biopharmaceutical activities.
Methods: A series of newly synthesized heterocyclic compounds, namely, N-(4-substituted ben-zylidene)-2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-6-methylquinazolin-3(4H)-amines (3a'-3e') and N-(4-substi-tuted benzylidene)-2-(2-aminooxazol-4-yl)-6-methylquinazolin-3(4H)-amines (3a-3e), were synthesized starting from 6-methylquinazolin-3(4H)-amine and 4-substituted benzaldehyde and their antibacterial and antifungal properties were evaluated.
Newly synthesized proteins destined for the secretory pathway are folded and assembled in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and then transported to the Golgi apparatus via COPII vesicles, which are normally 60-90 nm. COPII vesicles must accordingly be enlarged to accommodate proteins larger than 90 nm, such as long-chain collagen. Key molecules involved in this enlargement are Tango1 and Tango1-like (Tali), which are transmembrane proteins in the ER encoded by the MIA3 and MIA2 genes, respectively.
