Horizontally scrolling text is, in theory, ideally suited to enhance viewing strategies recommended to improve reading performance under conditions of central vision loss such as macular disease, although it is largely unproven in this regard. This study investigated if the use of scrolling text produced an observable improvement in reading performed under conditions of eccentric viewing in an artificial scotoma paradigm. Participants (n=17) read scrolling and static text with a central artificial scotoma controlled by an eye-tracker. There was an improvement in measures of reading accuracy, and adherence to eccentric viewing strategies with scrolling, compared to static, text. These findings illustrate the potential benefits of scrolling text as a potential reading aid for those with central vision loss.

Background: Our meta-analysis fills gaps by assessing sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors' renal outcomes in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients including long-term effects and the subgroup analyses of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) values and follow-up times.

Methods: The literature search of relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted in Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane Central from the inception to 8 June 2023 on patients with CKD treated with SGLT2 inhibitors. We selected medical subject heading (MeSH) terms and free text terms associated with gliflozin and RCT.

Postural control is a multisensory adaptive system performing predictive (anticipatory) and/or reactive (compensatory) actions, with varying degrees of accuracy, to maintain balance in a changing environmental context. Common instrumentation to evaluate balance includes static and dynamic force platforms; added sway-referenced perturbations on the dynamic platform constitute its main advantage. Clinical applications notwithstanding, normative data are needed for interpretation in clinical settings.

Phosphogypsum is the main industrial solid waste from wet process phosphoric acid production, which has significant potential for environmental sustainability and engineering applications when modified. In order to explore the mechanical properties of modified phosphogypsum (MG) in different loading environments, uniaxial compression tests were conducted at four loading rates: 0.03, 0.

Large language models (LLMs) have emerged as a popular resource for generating information relevant to a user query. Such models are created through a resource-intensive training process utilizing an extensive, static corpus of textual data. This static nature results in limitations for adoption in domains with rapidly changing knowledge, proprietary information, and sensitive data.

Background: The importance of routine hypertension screening in children and adolescents is now well recognized. However, it is often undiagnosed in clinical practice, partly due to the reliance on a complex blood pressure (BP) percentile-based table with hundreds of cutoffs by age, sex, and height.

Main Text: Many studies have explored simplified tools for screening hypertension in children and adolescents, such as simplified formulas, simplified BP tables by age and sex group, by age group, or by height group, and the BP to height ratio.
