Relevance of mode coupling to energy/information transfer during protein function, particularly in the context of allosteric interactions is widely accepted. However, existing evidence in favor of this hypothesis comes essentially from model systems. We here report a novel formal analysis of the near-native dynamics of myosin II, which allows us to explore the impact of the interaction between possibly non-Gaussian vibrational modes on fluctutational dynamics. We show that an information-theoretic measure based on mode coupling alone yields a ranking of residues with a statistically significant bias favoring the functionally critical locations identified by experiments on myosin II.

Background: Ambient Mass Spectrometry (AMS) encompasses a group of techniques that have emerged as powerful strategies for direct, in-situ and high-throughput analysis, also in compliance with the principles of green analytical chemistry. Swab Touch Spray-Mass Spectrometry (Swab TS-MS) is a home-made AMS technique that involves the use of a medical swab as sampling tool and electrospray probe. To date, Swab TS-MS has been applied only for the analysis of small molecules, especially in forensic and medical fields, leaving the analysis of peptides and proteins still unexplored.

We propose a mechanism for generating single photons in the mid-infrared (MIR) using a solid-state or molecular quantum emitter. The scheme uses cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) effects to selectively enhance a Frank-Condon transition, deterministically preparing a single Fock state of a polar phonon mode. By coupling the phonon mode to an antenna, the resulting excitation is then radiated to the far field as a single photon with a frequency matching the phonon mode.

Surface-catalyzed polymerization is crucial in both chemical science and industrial manufacturing, yet achieving regioselective radical polymerization on the surface remains challenging. Here, we demonstrate the regioselective Ullmann polymerization of nonsymmetrical 2,8-dibromoquinoline (DBQ) on an Au(111) surface. By combining scanning tunneling microscopy, density functional theory calculations, and kinetic modeling, we reveal the regioselectivity and its evolution with surface temperature at the molecular level.

Background: Breastfeeding self-efficacy among both mothers and fathers is critical in enhancing exclusive breastfeeding rates. However, the interrelationship between maternal and paternal breastfeeding self-efficacy and their determinants remains unknown.

Research Aims: We aimed to (a) investigate the relationship between breastfeeding self-efficacy scores postpartum for mothers and fathers; (b) explore factors associated with breastfeeding self-efficacy in this group; and (c) examine determinants of combined self-efficacy scores among breastfeeding parents in Malawi.

Background: Despite the high morbidity and mortality of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), treatment options remain limited. The HFpEF syndrome is associated with a high comorbidity burden, including high prevalence of obesity and hypertension. Although inflammation is implicated to play a key role in HFpEF pathophysiology, underlying causal mechanisms remain unclear.
