Objective: To describe Schirmer tear test I and rebound tonometry findings in healthy bovine calves.
Animals Studied: Thirty-three clinically normal dairy breed calves of mean (SD) 11 (1.1) weeks (range, 9.3-13.3 weeks) of age were evaluated.
Procedures: A Schirmer tear test I was performed on each eye followed by tonometry, using a TonoVet(®) without topical anesthesia. We report means (SD) and statistical analysis of data for each assay.
Results: For both Schirmer tear test (STT) I and tonometry, significant differences were not found between fellow eyes (P = 0.1536 and P = 0.83, respectively). The mean (SD) STT I value of all eyes was 20.4 (5.0) mm/min (range, 9-34 mm/min) while the mean (SD) intraocular pressure (IOP) value of all eyes was 15.2 (5.2) mmHg (range, 7-25 mmHg).
Conclusions: This study reports normal data for the STT I and rebound tonometry in calves. This data may be useful in complete ophthalmic examinations of cattle, guiding diagnosis of glaucoma, uveitis, and keratoconjunctivitis sicca. However, results of these diagnostic modalities must be interpreted in light of clinical signs, given the wide range of normal values obtained in this study.

To compare the long-term efficacy and safety of intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments using a 590-nm and an acne filter. In this prospective, randomized, paired-eye trial study, 30 patients with moderate and severe meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) were followed up for at least one month after their last treatment. Group A received IPL treatment with an acne filter, a type of notch filter that blocks wavelengths between 600 and 800 nm, allowing IPL to emit wavelengths between 400-600 nm and 800-1200 nm.

Sensitivity to ocular irritation varies among individuals, being influenced by clinical, subjective, and biochemical factors. This study aimed to evaluate individual variability in ocular irritation sensitivity, focusing on clinical parameters, pain perception, and tear neuromediator profiles. Sixty female participants aged 20-40 were classified into high-sensitivity and low-sensitivity groups based on their response to an irritant (Tween20).

Purpose: To investigate the effect of nocturnal chronic hypoxia on the thickness changes of the corneal limbal epithelial area that provides regeneration of the corneal epithelium and ocular surface evaluation parameters in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Methods: All patients diagnosed with OSA and the control group underwent a complete ophthalmological examination, including slit-lamp examination and funduscopy. Tear break-up time, Schirmer test-I, Ocular Surface Disease Index Questionnaire, and anterior segment optical coherence tomography were performed with fluorescein sterile strip for ocular surface evaluation.

BACKGROUND The 6-item Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) is a method for evaluating disease activity in ankylosing spondylitis (AS). This study included 78 patients with active and inactive AS and aimed to evaluate anterior and posterior segment ocular changes. MATERIAL AND METHODS Seventy-eight patients and 70 control subjects were enrolled in this study.

Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is caused by variants in a gene that encodes a protein essential for water and ion transport in the epithelial cells of exocrine organs. Given the possible relationship of this protein and conjunctival and corneal epithelium, the aim of this study was to evaluate ophthalmologic alterations in people with CF.
Methods: Forty-five people with CF underwent pulmonary evaluation including inflammatory score (IS).
