The origin of the condensation of water begins at the nanoscale, a length-scale that is challenging to probe for liquids. In this work we directly image heterogeneous nucleation of water nanodroplets by in situ transmission electron microscopy. Using gold nanoparticles bound to a flat surface as heterogeneous nucleation sites, we observe nucleation and growth of water nanodroplets. The growth of nanodroplet radii follows the power law: R(t)~(t-t 0) β , where β~0.2-0.3.

The aim of this study was to determine the frequency-temperature dependence of the AC conductivity and relaxation times in humid electrical pressboard used in the insulation of power transformers, impregnated with the innovative NYTRO BIO 300X bio-oil produced from plant raw materials. Tests were carried out for a composite of cellulose-bio-oil-water nanodroplets with a moisture content of 0.6% by weight to 5% by weight in the frequency range from 10 Hz to 5·10 Hz.

Polyoxylglycerides-based solid mixtures, commercially known as Gelucire®, are excipients commonly used for bioavailability improvement of poorly water-soluble drugs. However, their effect on solutions containing hydrophobic drugs above crystalline solubility has not yet been explored. The goal of this study was to investigate the impact of a mix of two commercial Gelucire® with high HLB values (Gelucire®50/13 and Gelucire®48/16) on the amorphous solubility and crystallization from supersaturated solutions of ketoprofen, used as model drug.

: Hydrophobic semi-solid or liquid biodegradable polymers have shown unique advantages as injectable matrices for sustained release of a wide range of drugs. Here we report the design, synthesis, and characterization of a new low-melt liquid copolymer based on poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) and establish its utility as a versatile delivery platform. : The copolymer, mPA20, consisting of short PCL blocks connected via acid-labile acetal linkages, was synthesized using a one-pot reaction and its properties were comprehensively characterized.

Collision-induced unfolding (CIU) has provided new levels of understanding of the stabilities and structure(s) for gas phase protein and protein complex ions formed by electrospray ionization (ESI). Variable-temperature (vT-ESI) data provide complementary information about temperature-induced folding/unfolding (TIU) reactions of solution phase ions. Results obtained by using CIU and TIU provide complementary information about stabilities of gas phase versus solution phase ions.
