Energy-phase coupling inside f-2f nonlinear interferometers poses stringent limits on the tolerable pulse-to-pulse energy fluctuations of phase stable laser systems. Here we report a coupling coefficient of -220±20  mrad per 1% energy increase at 800 nm. We also report coefficients from +320 to +820  mrad per 1% energy increase in the 1140-1550 nm (signal) range. Finally, we report coefficients from -180 to +30  mrad per 1% energy variation in the 1636-1940 nm range.

The current textiles primarily employ passive heat barriers to minimize heat loss and achieve effective thermal insulation for human beings. Accordingly, intelligent fibers with energy storage and temperature control capabilities have garnered significant attention due to their potential to revolutionize textile technology. The study integrates the photo-thermal effect and phase change energy storage materials onto a fiber, thereby fabricating a fully intelligent energy storage fiber.

Spatial degeneracy is the cause of the complex electronic, geometrical, and magnetic structures found in a number of materials whose more representative example is KCuF. In the literature the properties of this lattice are usually explained through the Kugel--Khomskii model, based on superexchange interactions. Here we provide rigorous theoretical and computational arguments against this view proving that structural and magnetic properties essentially arise from electron-vibration (vibronic) interactions.

. High energy and large field of view (FOV) phase contrast imaging is crucial for biological and even medical applications. Although some works have devoted to achieving a large FOV at high energy through bending gratings and so on, which would be extremely challenging in medical high energy imaging.

Active metamaterials for realizing odd mass density.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

May 2023

Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO 65211.

Solids built out of active components have exhibited odd elastic stiffness tensors whose active moduli appear in the antisymmetric part and which give rise to non-Hermitian static and dynamic phenomena. Here, we present a class of active metamaterial featured with an odd mass density tensor whose asymmetric part arises from active and nonconservative forces. The odd mass density is realized using metamaterials with inner resonators connected by asymmetric and programmable feed-forward control on acceleration and active forces along the two perpendicular directions.

Effect of Substrate Surface Charges on Proton Conduction of Ultrathin Nafion Films.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

March 2023

Institute of Fuel Cells, School of Mechanical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Dongchuan Road 800, Shanghai 200240, China.

A potential approach to enhance the suppressed proton conductivity of nanoscale ultrathin Nafion films is to adjust the ionomer structure via regulating the catalyst-ionomer interaction. To understand the interaction between substrate surface charges and Nafion molecules, self-assembled ultrathin films (∼20 nm) were prepared on the SiO model substrates, which were modified with silane coupling agents to carry either negative (COO) or positive (NH) charges. Specifically, the surface energy, phase separation, and proton conductivity were investigated by contact angle measurements, atomic force microscopy, and microelectrodes to illuminate the relationship between the substrate surface charge, thin-film nanostructure, and proton conduction.
