HfO(2)-SiO(2) mixed composite thin films have been deposited on fused silica substrate by co-evaporation of HfO(2) and SiO(2) through the reactive electron-beam evaporation technique. The composition-dependent refractive index and the absorption coefficient have been analyzed using different effective medium approximation (EMA) models in order to evaluate the suitability of these models for such mixed composite thin films. The discrepancies between experimentally determined and EMA-computed values are explained through microstructural and morphological evolutions observed in these mixed composite films. Finally, the dependence of the laser damage threshold as a function of silica content has been investigated, and the improved laser-induced damage threshold for films having more than 80% silica content has been explained through the defect-assisted multiphoton ionization process.

Background: Accurate estimates of personal exposure to ambient air pollution are difficult to obtain and epidemiological studies generally rely on residence-based estimates, averaged spatially and temporally, derived from monitoring networks or models. Few epidemiological studies have compared the associated health effects of personal exposure and residence-based estimates.
Objective: To evaluate the association between exposure to air pollution and cognitive function using exposure estimates taking mobility and location into account.
This study presents an integrated framework that combines spatial clustering techniques and multi-source geospatial data to comprehensively assess and understand geological hazards in Hunan Province, China. The research integrates self-organizing map (SOM) and geo-self-organizing map (Geo-SOM) to explore the relationships between environmental factors and the occurrence of various geological hazards, including landslides, slope failures, collapses, ground subsidence, and debris flows. The key findings reveal that annual average precipitation (Pre), profile curvature (Pro_cur), and slope (Slo) are the primary factors influencing the composite geological hazard index (GI) across the province.

Background And Aims: The interaction of serum uric acid (SUA) with atherogenesis is incompletely understood. Aim of our study was to investigate the association of SUA levels with coronary plaque composition including high-risk-plaque (HRP) features by coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) and for the prediction of major adverse cardiac events (MACE).
Methods And Results: 1242 patients (age 66.

We prepared a cellulose nanofiber (CNF)-based porous membrane with three dimensional cellular structures. CNF was concentrated a surfactant-induced assembly by mixing CNF with a cationic surfactant, domiphen bromide (DB). Furthermore, they were accumulated by centrifugation to obtain a CNF-DB sol.

In this study, a commercially available polypropylene homopolymer (H-PP) was blended with blow molding polyethylene (PE) grade via melt mixing using a compounding machine. The resulting blends were subjected to high-temperature size exclusion chromatography (SEC) analysis, coupled with infrared-5 (IR-5), viscometer (VISCO), and multi-angle laser light scattering (MALS) detectors. The molecular weight (MW) and MW distributions were investigated using SEC, and the exact blend compositions were evaluated using C nuclear magnetic resonance.
