Treating colorectal liver metastases (CLMs) located at the hepatocaval confluence with surgery is challenging due to its complexity and associated high risks of perioperative mortality and morbidity. Moreover, thermal ablation techniques are sensitive to the "heat-sink" effect, which reduces their efficacy when tumors are in contact with major blood vessels. In this study we evaluated the feasibility and safety of an intraoperative high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) device for destroying liver tissue volumes sufficiently large to consider treating CLMs at the hepatocaval confluence.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to evaluate the feasibility of an exercise intervention for young people aged 13-17 with mild to moderate depression, comparing high-intensity exercise, low-intensity exercise, and social activities.
  • Participants were recruited through mental health services and schools, with the intervention delivered over 12 weeks by trained professionals.
  • Results showed a 71.4% retention rate and over 67% attendance, although only 14 participants were randomized from the initial referrals, indicating challenges in recruitment.

Background: Liver metastasis is highly aggressive and immune tolerant, and lacks effective treatment strategies. This study aimed to develop a neoantigen hydrogel vaccine (NPT-gels) with high clinical feasibility and further investigate its efficacy and antitumor molecular mechanisms in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) for the treatment of liver metastases.

Methods: The effects of liver metastasis on survival and intratumor T-cell subpopulation infiltration in patients with advanced tumors were investigated using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) database and immunofluorescence staining, respectively.

In Côte d'Ivoire, there is a high intensity of pyrethroid resistance in malaria vectors which may threaten successful vector control. Molecular studies of the target site mutation in the voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) show that the gene frequencies of these mutations are high, widely spread across Côte d'Ivoire, and even fixed in some areas. To further characterize insecticide resistance in Côte d'Ivoire beyond target site mutations, the metabolic resistance mechanism was explored.

Background And Objective: Focal therapy is increasingly being used as a treatment for localized prostate cancer (PC). Our aim was to evaluate oncological outcomes, recurrence patterns, and survival after high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), to discuss the lessons learned from our experience, and to propose strategies to enhance patient selection for HIFU treatment.

Methods: Between 2016 and 2023, 113 patients underwent focal HIFU treatment for PC.
