Introduction: The overall prevalence of HIV associated oral lesions among adults has decreased since the advent of highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART).
Aims And Objectives: This study describes the prevalence and types of oral mucosal lesions in adults, who accepted a dedicated oral and dental programme for HIV-infected patients. The incidence of oral lesions and the CD4 cell counts on those patients, were related to cases receiving HAART and to those who were not.
Design: This was a retrospective, descriptive cross-sectional study.
Methods: Patients were interviewed, using a structured questionnaire to obtain information regarding medical history, current medications and demographic details. Data relating to CD4 cell counts were extracted from clinical medical records of the patent. In each case, the oral cavity of the sitting patient was examined under artificial light, by a clinician using a mouth mirror. Oral lesions were categorised in accordance with EC-Clearinghouse diagnostic criteria.
Results: The prevalence of HIV-associated oral lesions was significantly reduced (p < 0.001) in patients receiving HAART. There was, however, no significant difference (p = 0.29) in mean CD4 counts between patients receiving HAART and those not receiving HAART. The presence of oral lesions was statistically significantly, associated with both CD4 counts of < 200 cells/mm3 (p < 0.001) and the absence of HAART (p = 0.033).
Conclusions: The study confirmed that the incidence of oral lesions and of pseudo-membranous candidiasis in particular, were statistically significantly reduced in patients receiving HAART.

This experiment aimed to compare the efficacy of an antimicrobial peptide (AMP) with a conventional antibiotic growth promoter (AGP) during necrotic enteritis (NE) challenge in broilers. In total, 720 1-day-old exclusively male broiler chicks (Ross-308) were allocated to five treatments, each with six replicates of 24 birds (n = 144/treatment), for 35 days. The treatments were as follows: (1) uninfected control (UC) with basal diet, (2) infected control (IC) with C.

To date, pagetoid spread-the proliferation of pagetoid cells in intraepidermal lesions, as observed in secondary extramammary Paget's disease-has not been reported in squamous epithelium derived from the extension of head and neck carcinomas. Herein, we report a case of pagetoid squamous cell proliferation associated with a primary intraosseous carcinoma (PIOC) arising in the periapical lesion of the maxilla, a finding not reported previously. A 60-year-old man presented with prostate adenocarcinoma and bilateral pubic bone, ilium bone, and sacral bone metastases.

Background: DNA methyltransferase 3A (Dnmt3a) is an enzyme that catalyzes the de novo methylation of DNA, and plays essential roles in a wide range of physiological and pathological processes. However, it remains unclear whether Porphyromonas gingivalis affects cementoblasts, the cells responsible for cementum formation, through Dnmt3a.
Methods: The samples were collected from models of mouse periapical lesions and mice of different ages, and the expression of Dnmt3a was detected through immunofluorescence.

This study investigated denture care attitudes, dental visit habits, oral mucosal lesions, and hygiene levels in 118 complete denture users treated at a university dentistry faculty. Data on demographics, smoking, denture use duration, dentist visits, and hygiene habits were collected via a questionnaire. A specialist examined mucosal lesions and assessed denture hygiene level using the Budtz-Jorgensen and Bertram method.

Objectives: IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common primary glomerular disease in China, but its pathogenesis remains unclear. This study aims to explore the regulatory role of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway in autophagy and mesangial proliferation during renal injury in IgA.
Methods: The activity of mTOR and autophagy was evaluated in kidney samples from IgAN patients and in an IgAN mouse model induced by oral bovine serum albumin and carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) injection.
