Unlabelled: Aim of the study was to determine association between clinical-anamnestic factors and degree of progression of atherosclerotic process in magistral noncocronary arteries during one year after ST-elevation (STE) myocardial infarction (MI).

Material: We included into this study 168 men (mean age 59.5 years) with STEMI subjected during hospitalization to coronary angiography and duplex color scanning of brachiocephalic arteries and main arteries of lower extremities. In a year we performed repeat ultrasound examination of same noncoronary arteries and assessed development of vascular complications.

Results: Greatest degree of atherosclerosis progression in noncoronary arteries was registered in patients older than 60 years, with hypertension, presence of atherosclerotic stenoses in noncoronary vascular beds at initial examination, those who had undergone percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass grafting, and patients with higher levels of total and low density lipoprotein cholesterol at examination after 12 months post MI.

Assessment of bystander coronary artery disease in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) patients using noncoronary-dedicated planning computed tomography angiography (CTA): diagnostic accuracy in a retrospective real-world cohort.

Clin Radiol

December 2024

Department of Radiology, Division of General Radiology, Medical University of Graz, Auenbruggerplatz 9, 8036 Graz, Austria; Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, University Hospital Wiener Neustadt, Corvinusring 3-5, 2700 Wiener Neustadt, Austria.

Aim: To assess the diagnostic potential of a noncoronary-dedicated pre-TAVR CT angiography (CTA) conducted as a prospective ECG-gated scan without premedication and standard cardiac reconstructions in evaluating bystander coronary artery disease (CAD) against invasive coronary angiography (ICA) as the gold standard.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included 232 patients who underwent both CTA and ICA as part of their pre-TAVR evaluation. Exclusion criteria included prior stent, pacemaker, coronary artery bypass, or valve surgery.

Endothelial cell Ass1 inhibits arteriosclerotic calcification in diabetes mellitus.

Biomed Pharmacother

December 2024

Department of Cardiology, Affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang 212001, China; Institue of Cardiovascular Diseases, Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang 212001, China. Electronic address:

Endothelial cell (EC) dysfunction is an important pathological feature of early calcification in diabetic plaques. Argininosuccinic synthase 1 (Ass1) is important in protecting EC activity. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the effect of endothelial Ass1 on calcification in diabetic plaques and its potential regulatory mechanism.

Background: Coronary obstruction (CO) is a fatal complication in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). However, data on the outcomes and details of coronary protection (CP) use in TAVR are limited.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the patients who had undergone CP during TAVR at our tertiary cardiac center from March 2017 to January 2024.

Differences between MINOCA and type 2 myocardial infarction: An ITALIAN observational study.

Int J Cardiol

February 2025

Azienda Sanitaria Universitaria Giuliano Isontina, Cardiothoracovascular Department, Trieste, Italy; Laboratory of Molecular Cardiology, Department of Medical Surgical and Health Sciences, Cattinara Hospital, University of Trieste, Trieste, Italy.

Background: Myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) and type 2 myocardial infarction (MI), both presenting as non-ST-elevation MI (NSTEMI), are often grouped together due to overlapping symptoms. The aim of our study is to compare their characteristics and prognosis to distinguish between them.

Methods: Among 7815 patients with NSTEMI who underwent coronary angiography between 2005 and 2022 we identified 538 patients with diagnosis of MINOCA (n = 301; 3,9 %) and type 2 MI (n = 237; 3 %).
