Gold catalysts capable of promoting reactions at low-level loadings under mild conditions are the exception rather than the norm. We examined reactions where the regeneration of cationic gold catalyst (e.g., protodeauration) was the turnover limiting stage. By manipulating electron density on the substituents around phosphorus and introducing steric handles we designed a phosphine ligand that contains two electron-rich ortho-biphenyl groups and a cyclohexyl substituent. This ligand formed a gold complex that catalyzed common types of gold-catalyzed reactions including intra- and intermolecular XH (X=C, N, O) additions to alkynes and cycloisomerizations, with high turnover numbers at room temperature or slightly elevated temperatures (≤50 °C). Our new ligand can be prepared in one step from commercially available starting materials.

Environmental films form when airborne particles and molecular species adsorb on solid surfaces. Recent studies have characterized these films but overlook how collection methods and host-surface character (orientation, chemical functionality, or height) change the deposition process. In this work, environmental films are collected at a rural location on gold and silicon surfaces (water contact angles of ca.

Photothermal therapy (PTT) is a method for treating cancer using the heat generated by light irradiation, often in combination with light-absorbing materials. Efficient PTT requires a drug delivery system to deliver light-absorbing materials to cancerous tissues. Gold nanostars (GNSs) enable efficient PTT through absorbing long-wavelength light.

Five new crystalline gold(I) complexes β-Au(μ-dppm)Br·2CHCl (), [Au(μ- dppm)Br]Br·2CHCl (), [Au(μ-dppm)Br](PF) (), [Au(μ-dppm)Cl](BPh)·3CHCl () and [Au(μ-dppm)]Cl(AsF)·2CHCl () (where dppm is bis(diphenylphosphino)methane) have been prepared and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Colorless β-Au(μ-dppm)Br·2CHCl () has centrosymmetric structure with two three-coordinate gold(I) ions held in close proximity by the dppm ligands. Crystals of [Au(μ- dppm)Br]Br·2CHCl (), [Au(μ-dppm)Br](PF) (), and [Au(μ-dppm)Cl](BPh)·3CHCl () have a cation with an unusual arrangement that binds a two-coordinate gold(I) ion to a three-coordinate gold(I) ion through an aurophilic interaction.

[(L1)Au(μ-H)MCp][BF] complexes (M = Mo and W) featuring cavity-shaped tris-2-(4,4'-di--butylbi-phenylyl)phosphine (L1) have been isolated. The tungsten derivative showed a remarkably fast reactivity in photolytic hydride transfer to generate the mononuclear gold hydride (L1)AuH. Both bimetallic adducts trap Ag cations, forming unprecedented {Au(μ-H)M(μ-H)Ag} trimetallic assemblies with destabilized Au-M interactions.

The accurate determination of acid/base constants (proton dissociation constants-p, or equivalently protonation constants-log) is essential for the physicochemical characterization of new molecules, especially in drug design and development, as these parameters thoroughly influence the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drug action. While pH/potentiometric titration remains the gold standard method for determining acid/base constants, spectroscopic techniques-particularly nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (as NMR/pH titrations)-have emerged as powerful alternatives for specific challenges in analytical chemistry, providing also information on the structure and site of protonation. In this study, we performed a comprehensive meta-analysis of protonation constants reported in the literature, measured using both potentiometry and NMR titrations.
