Unlabelled: Opioids are important endogenous ligands that exist in both invertebrates and vertebrates and signal by activation of opioid receptors to produce analgesia and reward or pleasure. The μ-opioid receptor is the best known of the opioid receptors and mediates the acute analgesic effects of opiates, while the δ-opioid receptor (DOR) has been less well studied and has been linked to effects that follow from chronic use of opiates such as stress, inflammation and anxiety. Recently, DORs have been shown to play an essential role in emotions and increasing evidence points to a role in learning actions and outcomes. The process of learning and memory in addiction has been proposed to involve strengthening of specific brain circuits when a drug is paired with a context or environment. The DOR is highly expressed in the hippocampus, amygdala, striatum and other basal ganglia structures known to participate in learning and memory. In this review, we will focus on the role of the DOR and its potential role in learning and memory underlying the development of addiction.

Skin corrosion assessment is an essential toxicity end point that addresses safety concerns for topical dosage forms and cosmetic products. Previously, skin corrosion assessments required animal testing; however, differences in skin architecture and ethical concerns regarding animal models have fostered the advancement of alternative methods such as and models. This study aimed to develop deep learning (DL) models based on recurrent neural networks (RNNs) for classifying skin corrosion of chemical compounds based on chemical language notation, molecular substructure, physicochemical properties, and a combination of these three properties called conjoint fingerprints.

Introduction: Physician assistants (PAs) should understand the implications and risks involved with airway management. Our study aimed to facilitate PA students' familiarity with airway management with instruction from anesthesiology residents. We assessed the students' knowledge of airway management both before and after a seminar to see if knowledge was retained.

Given the influence of cognitive abilities on life outcomes, there is inherent value in identifying genes involved in controlling learning and memory. Further, cognitive dysfunction is a core feature of many neuropsychiatric disorders. Here, we use a combinatory in silico approach to identify human gene targets that will have an especially high likelihood of individually and directly impacting cognition.

Brain tumors can cause difficulties in normal brain function and are capable of developing in various regions of the brain. Malignant tumours can develop quickly, pass through neighboring tissues, and extend to further brain regions or the central nervous system. In contrast, healthy tumors typically develop slowly and do not invade surrounding tissues.

Odors are known to entertain a special link with memory: once the meaning of an odor has been learned, it naturally acts as a retrieval cue of the learning context, along with the emotions and behaviors associated with it. The existence of this link has for several years inspired the study of olfactory function in Alzheimer's disease (AD), known for the memory disorders it causes. The aim of this review is to summarize the current scientific knowledge on the almost paradoxical dual role played by odors in the management of AD, as both screening and therapeutic tools.
