Aim: To evaluate the impact of using the innovative antiviral drugs in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) on the disease burden in the long term.

Materials And Methods: A program was developed to increase the availability of innovative antiviral therapy (AVT) in patients with CHC covering the period from 2013 to 2020. To evaluate the impact of the program on the burden of hepatitis C (HC) in the Russian Federation, a Markov model of the disease progression was developed till 2030. Calculations were made in medical and social perspectives.

Results: The implementation of the program will allow to decrease the medical costs by RBL 2 billion and budget costs, including disability payments, by RBL 3.8 billion by 2030. During this period, in GDP losses will decrease by RBL 1.1 trillion and the total burden of HC taking into account the cost of the program by RBL 1 trillion.

Conclusion: For the first time it was shown that the expanding coverage of CHC patients with innovative AVT will allow to reduce the costs of health and social services.

Data accumulated in scientific literature indicate that Parkinson's disease develops after infections caused by SARS-CoV-2, West Nile, Coxsackie, St. Louis viruses, Japanese encephalitis B, hepatitis B and C, influenza A, HIV, herpes viruses, flaviviruses. Neuroinvasive West Nile viruses and HIV activate expression of alpha-synuclein.

Researchers have identified Avastrovirus as a significant genus of bird viruses, linked to various avian diseases such as enteritis, growth retardation, nephritis and hepatitis. These infections can cause substantial economic losses in agrocultureand have a widespread impact on global food production. Although there have been numerous studies on these viruses, most of them-mainly focuses on poultry.

Hepatitis E virus (HEV; family ) infections cause >40,000 human deaths annually. Zoonotic infections predominantly originate from ungulates and occasionally from rats, highlighting the zoonotic potential of rodent-associated hepeviruses. We conducted host genomic data mining and uncovered two genetically divergent rodent-associated hepeviruses, and two bat-associated hepeviruses genetically related to known bat-associated strains.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the safety and tolerability of bulevirtide (BLV), a new treatment for chronic hepatitis delta (CHD), by analyzing data from three clinical trials involving 269 patients.
  • The findings indicated that certain adverse events, such as increased bile acid levels and injection-site reactions, were more common with BLV compared to a control group, but serious side effects were minimal and did not lead to treatment discontinuation.
  • Overall, BLV was deemed safe and well tolerated over 48 weeks of therapy in patients with CHD, showing promise as an effective treatment option.
