Purpose: This study aimed to describe the incidence, clinical and pathological features, and outcomes of H3 K27M- mutant Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG) patients with leptomeningeal dissemination (LMD) and systematically investigate the predictive and prognostic factors to clarify the response to treatment after the onset of LMD.

Methods: A total of 304 patients diagnosed with DMG from October 17, 2017, to October 17, 2023, were enrolled in this study, of which 32 patients were diagnosed with LMD. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify the predictors of LMD, including clinical, molecular, and imaging data.

Primary Cerebral Lymphoma With Isolated Vitreoretinal and Cerebral Recurrences Without Meningeosis: A Case Report.

Cureus

December 2024

Treatment Resistant Schizophrenia Outpatient Clinic, Júlio de Matos Hospital, São José Local Health Unit, Clinical Academic Center of Lisbon, Lisbon, PRT.

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a diffuse, large B-cell lymphoma affecting the brain, spinal cord, leptomeninges, or eyes. A patient with a recurrence of a previous PCNSL manifesting as an isolated vitreoretinal disease without central nervous system (CNS) involvement and a second cerebral recurrence without vitreoretinal involvement has not yet been reported. The patient is an 86-year-old man with PCNSL of the left cerebellum diagnosed at the age of 82 years and treated with suboccipital trepanation and resection of the lesion followed by chemotherapy.

Background And Purpose: Leptomeningeal collaterals have been associated with better outcomes in large-vessel stroke, but little is known about how the Circle of Willis (CoW) collaterals affect stroke outcomes. We aimed to determine the relationship between three anatomically distinct CoW subtypes and 90-day outcomes in acute ischemic stroke patients after successful revascularization via endovascular thrombectomy (EVT).

Materials And Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of patients treated with successful EVT for large-vessel occlusion at a comprehensive stroke center between May 2016 and November 2023.

Intrathecal pemetrexed improves survival outcomes in previously treated EGFR-mutant advanced non-small-cell lung cancer with leptomeningeal metastases.

Heliyon

December 2024

Department of Medical Oncology, Lung Cancer and Gastrointestinal Unit, Hunan Cancer Hospital/The Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University, Changsha, 410013, China.

Objective: This study assessed the impact of intrathecal pemetrexed (IP) in managing leptomeningeal metastases (LM) in previously treated patients with -mutant advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: We analyzed the clinical and survival outcomes of 50 patients with LM who received 50 mg IP after disease progression with epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) treatment between September 2021 and September 2023 at the Hunan Cancer Hospital. Treatment response was evaluated based on improvement in neurological symptoms/signs and Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) scores.

Article Synopsis
  • Despite significant advancements in DNA sequencing technologies, clear and concise genomic fingerprints for different species remain elusive.
  • The concept of "nucleic quasi-primes" is introduced as the shortest unique sequences found in specific genomes that can provide insights into species evolution and have applications in various fields like agriculture and healthcare.
  • In humans, nucleic quasi-primes are linked to genes related to brain development, and their presence is associated with variations in gene expression relevant to cognitive function and various diseases.
