Background: Hypertension is a major cardiovascular risk factor, yet traditional care often results in suboptimal blood pressure (BP) control at the population level. We implemented a remote hypertension management program that monitored home BP and titrated medications per algorithm. Systemic capillary leak syndrome (SCLS) is a rare and life-threatening disorder characterized by acute hypotension, hypoalbuminemia, and hemoconcentration, which often results in severe respiratory complications, such as pulmonary edema. SCLS can be triggered by infections, including COVID-19, and is associated with a high mortality rate. Here, we report a case of COVID-19-associated SCLS in a 68-year-old man.

Background: Kentucky is one of seven states with high, sustained rural HIV transmission tied to injection drug use. Expanding access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has been endorsed as a key HIV prevention strategy; however, uptake among people who inject drugs (PWID) has been negligible in rural areas. Introduction: Pain at the buccal mucosal graft (BMG) harvest site in the immediate postoperative period is common and delays resumption of oral intake. This study compares the time for resumption of pain-free solid and liquid diets and postoperative pain scores at harvest site following the administration of inferior-alveolar nerve-block plus buccal-nerve block (IANB + BNB) versus placebo. We hypothesize that the intervention could decrease pain and aid in early food intake.
