Fluorinated olefin-containing benzothiadiazoles have important applications in optoelectronic materials. Herein, we reported the direct olefination of fluorinated benzothiadiazoles, as catalyzed by palladium. The reaction proceeds under mild reaction conditions and shows high functional-group compatibility. A preliminary study of the properties of the resulting symmetrical and unsymmetrical olefin-containing fluorinated benzothiadiazoles in red-light-emitting dyes has also been conducted.

Benzothiadiazole (BT) has shown promising applications in fullerene solar cells. However, few BT-based polymer donors exhibited a noticeable power conversion efficiency (PCE) for the fused-ring small molecular acceptor-based polymer solar cells (PSCs). Herein, we developed a D-A (D: donor, A: acceptor) polymer donor F-1 based on fluorinated BT (ffBT) as A unit and chlorinated benzo [1,2-b:4,5-b'] dithiophene (BDT-2Cl) as D unit.

Despite significant progress in the power-conversion efficiency (PCE) of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), the instability of devices remains a considerable obstacle for commercial applications. This instability primarily originates from the migration of halide ions-particularly iodide ions (I). Under light exposure and thermal stress, I migrates and transforms into I, leading to irreversible degradation and performance loss.

Living crystallization-driven self-assembly (CDSA) has emerged as an efficient strategy to generate nanofibers of π-conjugated polymers (CPNFs) in a controlled fashion. However, reports of donor-acceptor (D-A) heterojunction CPNFs are extremely rare. The preparation of these materials remains a challenge due to the lack of rational design guidelines for the D-A π-conjugated units.

Excessive fluoride ion (F) in the environment can affect health and even endanger life when ingested by the human body. However, most fluoride probes have the disadvantages of low sensitivity and long detection time. Herein, fluorescent probe 3a is successfully synthesized by linking two acetylenyltrimethylsilyl groups at both ends of the fluorinated benzothiadiazole core.

Fluorination is one of the most effective ways to manipulate molecular packing, optical bandgap and molecular energy levels in organic semiconductor materials. In this work, different number of fluorine atoms was introduced into the acceptor moiety 2,2'-dithiophene linked 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole, utilizing the alkylthiophene modified dithieno[2,3-:2',3'-']benzo[1,2-:4,5-] (DTBDT) as the donor unit, three polymers: PDTBDT-0F-BTs, PDTBDT-2F-BTs and PDTBDT-6F-FBTs were synthesized. With the number of fluorine atoms in each repeat unit of polymers varying from 0 to 2 and then up to 6, PDTBDT-0F-BTs, PDTBDT-2F-BTs and PDTBDT-6F-FBTs exhibited gradually downshifted energy levels and improved dielectric constants () from 3.
