Historically, Mexican-born women who immigrate to the United States (U.S.) have lower levels of alcohol use and higher rates of abstinence compared with Mexican American women born in the U.S. and other racial groups in the U.S. As such, immigrant women's alcohol use has received limited attention by the research community. Gaps in knowledge of their alcohol use patterns, changes in healthy drinking recommendation for women, and projections of population growth in both Mexican immigrant and Mexican American populations support the need for the study. Data from the Center for Disease Control's National Health Interview Survey were used to explore alcohol use differences in women of Mexican origin born in and outside of the U.S. In addition, the relationship between years in the U.S. and drinks per day was explored in Mexican immigrant women. The results indicated that Mexican immigrant women who drink are drinking above recommended levels and the younger immigrant women are drinking more drinks per day than young Mexican American women. These changes point to the importance of developing culturally sensitive interventions for this expanding segment of the population.

Background: Fructose (50% of sucrose/sugar) is one component of free-sugars and is metabolized to uric acid, which is a known risk factor for gout and metabolic syndrome. Pacific peoples in New Zealand experience a higher prevalence of gout, type 2 diabetes, and overweight/obesity than other ethnic groups. Interestingly, despite having a similar body mass index (BMI), they tend to have a higher proportion of appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASMM) and less fat than other ethnic groups.

Objectives: To design and develop a new, innovative and valid School Menu Healthiness Assessment Tool that is suitable for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of school food and drink provision. Secondly, to analyse primary and secondary school menus and price lists pan-Wales to ascertain their healthiness and whether free school meal eligible pupils can afford to access healthy, nutritious food across the school day.
Design: Codable items and categories of school food and drink provision were operationalised before the tool underwent iterative development and testing.

Background: Alcohol intake is associated with a higher risk of estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer (BC), presumably through its confirmed ability to increase sex hormone levels. Whether consuming alcohol within the recommended limit of one serving per day increases sex hormone levels among postmenopausal women taking aromatase inhibitors (AI) to inhibit estrogen production remains unknown.
