Significant advances in the development of new cancer therapies have given rise to multiple novel therapeutic options in chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies. Recent studies have demonstrated that it is a misconception that transcriptome sequencing requires tissue preserved at ultracold temperatures. Here, we outline the potential origins of this misconception and its possible role in biasing the geographic distribution of published plant transcriptomes. We highlight the importance of ensuring diverse sampling by providing an overview of the questions that transcriptomes can answer about the forces shaping the plant tree of life.

A long-unrealized goal in solid-state nanopore sensing is to achieve out-of-plane electrical sensing and control of DNA during translocation, which is a prerequisite for base-by-base ratcheting that enables DNA sequencing in biological nanopores. Two-dimensional (2D) heterostructures, with their capability to construct out-of-plane electronics with atomic layer precision, are ideal yet unexplored candidates for use as electrical sensing membranes. Here we demonstrate a nanopore architecture using a vertical 2D heterojunction diode consisting of p-type WSe on n-type MoS.

Cancer in Mexico is a major public burden for which rates are expected to increase over time. In settings like Mexico, much potential for reduction through cancer prevention efforts remains unrealized, due in part, to a lack of formal cancer prevention and control training and career opportunities. We trained a cadre of instructors to deliver a pilot cancer prevention education program for oncology professionals and leaders.

Dark diversity of Odonata in Amazonian streams.

The biological diversity of a region may not be fully sampled due to the low abundance or rarity of species, or the absence of species determined by their niche specificity. Investigating these species is essential for understanding the unrealized ecological potential in different habitats, identifying gaps in local and regional communities, and gaining a better understanding of the impacts of environmental changes. Therefore, to expand knowledge about the diversity of Odonata in Eastern Amazonia considering the absent species, we tested the hypotheses that: 1) Environmental variables will influence dark diversity, with greater explanation by canopy cover where sites with lower canopy cover will have higher dark diversity values, and; 2) Functional traits associated with better species dispersal will be correlated with low dark diversity of Odonata, such as larger and wider wings for example.
