Gut microbiota as a new target for hyperuricemia: A perspective from natural plant products.

Phytomedicine

January 2025

National Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitution and Preventive Medicine, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Beijing, 100000, China. Electronic address:

Background: Hyperuricemia, a prevalent chronic metabolic disorder caused by purine metabolism disturbances, is characterized by elevated serum uric acid (UA) levels. Prolonged hyperuricemia can cause severe complications such as gout or kidney damage. However, the toxic side effects of and adverse reactions to UA-lowering drugs are becoming increasingly prominent.

Re-sheathing failure with Navitor during transcatheter aortic valve implantation: a case report.

Eur Heart J Case Rep

January 2025

The Second Department of Internal Medicine, University of Toyama, 2630 Sugitani, Toyama, Toyama 930-0194, Japan.

Background: Self-expanding valves used in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) are designed to allow recapture and repositioning, facilitating optimal placement and mitigating conduction disturbances and paravalvular leakage. Here, we present a rare case in which the Navitor (Abbott Structural Heart, Santa Clara, CA, USA) could not be recaptured.

Case Summary: An 81-year-old Japanese woman with very severe aortic stenosis and a massively calcified nodule at the non-coronary cusp (NCC) underwent TAVI with a 25 mm Navitor valve.

Effects of Conservation Agriculture on Soil NO Emissions and Crop Yield in Global Cereal Cropping Systems.

Glob Chang Biol

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Mountain Surface Processes and Ecological Regulation, Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chengdu, People's Republic of China.

Conservation agriculture, which involves minimal soil disturbance, permanent soil cover, and crop rotation, has been widely adopted as a sustainable agricultural practice globally. However, the effects of conservation agriculture practices on soil NO emissions and crop yield vary based on geography, management methods, and the duration of implementation, which has hindered its widespread scientific application. In this study, we assessed the impacts of no-tillage (NT), both individually and in combination with other conservation agriculture principles, on soil NO emissions and crop yields worldwide, based on 1270 observations from 86 peer-reviewed articles.

Enhanced Nasal-to-Brain Drug Delivery by Multivalent Bioadhesive Nanoparticle Clusters for Cerebral Ischemic Reperfusion Injury Protection.

Acta Biomater

January 2025

School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Shenzhen), Shenzhen Campus of Sun Yat-sen University, Shenzhen, 518107, China; School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Shenzhen), Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, 510275, China. Electronic address:

Following cerebral ischemia, reperfusion injury can worsen ischemia-induced functional, metabolic disturbances, and pathological damage upon blood flow restoration, potentially leading to irreversible harm. Yet, there's a dearth of advanced, localized drug delivery systems ensuring active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) efficacy in cerebral protection during ischemia-reperfusion. This study introduces a multivalent bioadhesive nanoparticle-cluster, merging bioadhesive nanoparticles (BNPs) with dendritic polyamidoamine (PAMAM), enhancing nose-to-brain delivery and brain protection efficacy against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injuries (CIRI).
