Purpose: To determine a relationship between sexual functioning and health state among survivors of stage I endometrial cancer, and to examine whether adjuvant intravaginal radiotherapy (IVRT) affects these measures compared to hysterectomy alone.

Methods: Two hundred five survivors (>1 year from surgery) completed questionnaires containing the EuroQol (EQ5D) and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). A total of 136 (66.3 %) underwent surgery alone, and 69 (33.7 %) received IVRT. Pearson correlation was used to correlate FSFI and EQ5D-Health State scores. Multivariable regression was performed to measure the impact of IVRT on sexual functioning and health state.

Results: A majority of patients (80 %) met criteria for sexual dysfunction by FSFI < 26.5. A significant correlation was detected between FSFI and EQ5D scores (Pearson correlation = 0.21, p = 0.003). Compared to the IVRT group, the surgery group was younger (p = 0.001) and trended toward more frequent use of minimally invasive surgery versus laparotomy (p = 0.08). Otherwise, the two groups were well balanced with respect to demographics, comorbidities, and baseline sexual activity. Controlling for age and surgery type, IVRT was not associated with poorer health state or sexual function. Receipt of laparotomy was associated with both poorer health state and sexual function (p = 0.0156 and p = 0.0247, respectively).

Conclusions: Sexual functioning was generally poor among endometrial cancer survivors; however, those with improved FSFI scores tended to have superior health states. IVRT was not a significant risk factor; however, receipt of laparotomy appeared to be associated with poorer sexual functioning and health state.

Objective: To determine the association between concurrent statin use with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and lung cancer-specific and overall mortality in patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Materials And Methods: SEER-Medicare was used to conduct a retrospective study of Medicare beneficiaries ≥65 years of age diagnosed with NSCLC between 2007 and 2017 treated with an ICI. Patients were followed from date of first ICI claim until death, 1 month from last ICI claim, or 12/31/2018, whichever came first.

Electronic address:

Background: Voice analysis has emerged as a potential biomarker for mood state detection and monitoring in bipolar disorder (BD). The systematic review aimed to summarize the evidence for voice analysis applications in BD, examining (1) the predictive validity of voice quality outcomes for mood state detection, and (2) the correlation between voice parameters and clinical symptom scales.

Methods: A PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library search was carried out by two investigators for publications investigating voice quality in BD according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statements.

University of Toronto Lupus Clinic, Centre for Prognosis Studies in Rheumatic Diseases, Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto, ON, Canada. Electronic address:

Lupus nephritis (LN) or renal involvement of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), is a common manifestation occurring in at least 50 % of SLE patients. LN remains a significant source of morbidity, often leading to progressive renal dysfunction and is a major cause of death in SLE. Despite these challenges, advances in the understanding of the pathogenesis and genetic underpinnings of LN have led to a commendable expansion in available treatments over the past decade.

Ion mobility spectrometry and ion mobility-mass spectrometry in clinical chemistry.

Adv Clin Chem

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, Center for Innovative Technology, Institute of Chemical Biology, Institute for Integrative Biosystems Research and Education, Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, United States. Electronic address:

Advancements in clinical chemistry have major implications in terms of public health, prompting many clinicians to seek out chemical information to aid in diagnoses and treatments. While mass spectrometry (MS) and hyphenated-MS techniques such as LC-MS or tandem MS/MS have long been the analytical methods of choice for many clinical applications, these methods routinely demonstrate difficulty in differentiating between isomeric forms in complex matrices. Consequently, ion mobility spectrometry (IM), which differentiates molecules on the basis of size, shape, and charge, has demonstrated unique advantages in the broad application of stand-alone IM and hyphenated IM instruments towards clinical challenges.
