Evaluating stress in shelter and institutionally owned cats is important to help guide improvements in their welfare. Welfare assessments often focus on behavior metrics and physiologic measurements, such as systemic cortisol levels. The gold standard for measuring acute stress is serum cortisol; measuring cortisol in feces and urine gives reliable time-integrated assessments of acute stress.

Noise exposure is one of the most common causes of sensorineural hearing loss. Although many studies considered inflammation to be a major contributor to noise-induced hearing loss, the process of cochlear inflammation is still unclear. Studies have found that activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway results in the accumulation of macrophages in the inner ear plays an important role in hair cell damage.

Ectodermal dysplasia (ED) is a spectrum of inherited disorders that compromise the development and function of ectodermal structures, like hair, nails, and teeth. This case report describes a 17-year-old male with sparse hair and cognitive difficulties who was diagnosed with ED in childhood. A multidisciplinary evaluation with dermatology, neurology, and dentistry revealed characteristic clinical features, and the histopathological diagnosis was confirmed via punch biopsy.

The unintended use of a prohibited substance may be due various reasons. This paper describes the case of a Polish canoeist preparing for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris who presented a positive doping test result, as a consequence of administering medication to her injured dog.
