The Asian species of Afidentula Kapur are revised, diagnosed and illustrated. The following new synonyms are proposed: Afidentula stephensi (Mulsant, 1850) (= Afidentula erberi Fürsch, 1984); Afidentula thanhsonensis Hoang, 1977 (=Afidentula cucphuongensis Hoang, 1977). The status of Afidentula herbigrada (Mulsant, 1850) as a synonym of Afidentula bisquadripunctata (Gyllenhal, 1808) is confirmed. One new species: Afidentula semisqualens sp. nov. and three new subspecies: A. manderstjernae bielawskii ssp. nov., A. manderstjernae bhutani ssp. nov. and A. manderstjernae bahraini ssp. nov. are described. The lectotype is designated for: Epilachna minima Gorham, 1894. A key for species identification is presented. Nomenclatural history and distribution are provided for each species. Afidentula decimaculata Wang & Cao, 1992 is treated here as incertae sedis, due to the unavailability of material for study.

Based on the recent revised generic classification of the tribe Epilachnini (Szawaryn et al. 2015), all 27 genera are re-described, diagnosed, illustrated, and included in an identification key. The following nomenclatural changes are made: Epilachna (Hypsa) Mulsant 1850, Epilachna (Cleta) Mulsant 1850, Solanophila Weise 1898, Epilachna (Aparodentata) Wang and Cao 1993, and Epilachna (Uniparodentata) Wang and Cao 1993 are removed from synonymy of Epilachna Chervolat 1837.

Ladybird beetles in the tribe Epilachnini include notorious crop pests and model species studied intensively in various fields of evolutionary biology. From a combined dataset of mitochondrial (ND2) and nuclear (28S) DNA sequences, we reconstructed the phylogeny of 46 species of Epilachnini from Asia, Africa, America, and the Australian region: 16 species in Epilachna, 24 species in Henosepilachna, and one species each in Adira, Afidenta, Afidentula, Afissula, Chnootriba, and Epiverta. In our phylogenetic trees, both Epilachna and Henosepilachna were reciprocally polyphyletic.
