Liver ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury is a common complication following liver surgery, significantly impacting the prognosis of liver transplantation and other liver surgeries. Betaine-homocysteine methyltransferase (BHMT), a crucial enzyme in the methionine cycle, has been previously confirmed the pivotal role in hepatocellular carcinoma, and it has also been demonstrated that BHMT inhibits inflammation, apoptosis, but its role in liver IR injury remains unknow. Following I/R injury, we found that BHMT expression was significantly upregulated in human liver transplant specimens, mice and hepatocytes.

Neuron Modulation by Synergetic Management of Redox Status and Oxidative Stress.

The transient receptor potential (TRP) channel is a key sensor for diverse cellular stimuli, regulating the excitability of primary nociceptive neurons. Sensitization of the TRP channel can heighten pain sensitivity to innocuous or mildly noxious stimuli. Here, reversible modulation of TRP channels is achieved by controlling both the light-induced photoelectrochemical reaction to induce neuronal depolarization, and antioxidants for neuronal protection.

Congenital heart disease (CHD) represents a major birth defect associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Although environmental factors are acknowledged as potential contributors to CHD, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Bisphenol A (BPA), a common endocrine disruptor, has attracted significant attention due to its widespread use and associated health risks.

Microplastics pose a serious ecological threat to agricultural soils, as they are very persistent in nature. Microplastics can enter the soil system in different ways and present different shapes and concentrations. However, little is known about how plants react to microplastics with different concentrations and shapes.

Recently, the activation of chlorine dioxide (ClO) by metal(oxide) for soil remediation has gained notable attention. However, the related activation mechanisms are still not clear. Herein, the variation of iron species and ClO, the generated reactive oxygen species, and the toxicity of the degradation intermediates were explored and evaluated with nanoscale zero-valent iron (nFe) being employed to activate ClO for soil polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) removal.
