Phialemonium infection in humans is rare. We report a 7-year-old healthy boy who presented with chronic otorrhea, which persisted despite adequate antibiotic therapy and four preservative tympanomastoidectomy operations. Following 3 years of intermittent topical antibiotic therapy, cultures eventually grew Phialemonium, which necessitated a more extensive operation, combined with systemic/topical anti-fungal agent to achieve clinical cure.

Background: With recent developments in the field of microbiology, an increasing number of yeasts and molds with the potential to cause infections in humans are identified every year. In addition to the challenges in identifying clinical isolates, there is limited antifungal susceptibility data available for Phialemonium species, leading to uncertainty in optimal treatment recommendations.
Methods: In this article, catheter-related bloodstream infections caused by Phialemonium curvata (previously Phialemonium curvatum ) in 3 immunosuppressed patients are presented.

Background: A growing number of non-dermatophytic moulds and yeasts with the ability to act as human pathogens are reported every year. Dematiaceous fungi cause phaeohyphomycosis which encompasses a broad spectrum of diseases ranging from superficial (cutaneous and subcutaneous) to disseminated infections. Such fungal infections are responsible for causing significant morbidity and mortality, frequently in immunocompromised patients and rarely in immunocompetent patients.
