Background: The relationship between premature ventricular contractions (PVC) and right ventricular (RV) function is not widely known. Left ventricular (LV) dysfunction due to PVC is known as PVC-induced cardiomyopathy (PIC) and suppressing the PVC substrate would improve LV function. The effect of PVC ablation on changes in RV function in patients with subtle RV subclinical dysfunction remains unknown.

Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) is traditionally described as chronic peripheral eosinophilia with involvement of various organs and systems, including the heart and nervous system. In this report, we describe cardiac involvement and border zone stroke in a patient with idiopathic HES. A 37-year-old woman presented with sudden right-sided weakness and slurred speech, which began four days before admission, accompanied by palpitations, retrosternal exertional chest discomfort, dry cough, and progressive shortness of breath over approximately two months.

Poincaré plot analysis of ECG uncovers beneficial effects of omaveloxolone in a mouse model of Friedreich's ataxia.

Heart Rhythm

January 2025

Department of Molecular Biosciences, University of California, Davis, CA, USA; Department of Basic Sciences, California Northstate University, Elk Grove, CA. Electronic address:

Background: Friedreich's ataxia (FA) is a rare inherited neuromuscular disorder, where most patients die from lethal cardiomyopathy and arrhythmias. Mechanisms leading to arrhythmic events in FA patients are poorly understood.

Objective: This study aims to examine cardiac electrical signal propagation in mouse model of FA with severe cardiomyopathy and evaluate effects of omaveloxolone (OMAV), the first FDA-approved therapy.

Idiopathic Annular Ventricular Arrhythmias.

Arrhythm Electrophysiol Rev

December 2024

Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Vanderbilt University Medical Center Nashville, TN, US.

Idiopathic arrhythmias originating from the mitral and tricuspid annuli are commonly encountered in clinical practice. This review focuses on distinguishing features of ventricular arrhythmias arising from these structures and the importance of distinguishing idiopathic arrhythmias from those associated with structural heart disease. Each region along the mitral and tricuspid annuli (including the cardiac crux and para-Hisian region) is then discussed separately, with a particular emphasis on the ablation strategies and pitfalls for each.

GABA/Glutamate Neuron Differentiation Imbalance and Increased AKT/mTOR Signaling in CNTNAP2 Cerebral Organoids.

Biol Psychiatry Glob Open Sci

January 2025

Biomedical Research Institute, Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas, University Campus, Ioannina, Greece.

Background: The polygenic nature of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) requires the identification of converging genetic pathways during early development to elucidate its complexity and varied manifestations.

Methods: We developed a human cerebral organoid model from induced pluripotent stem cells with targeted genome editing to abolish protein expression of the ASD risk gene.

Results: CNTNAP2 cerebral organoids displayed accelerated cell cycle, ventricular zone disorganization, and increased cortical folding.
